International Standard Version | NET Bible |
Then the angel who had been speaking with me returned and woke me up as if I had been asleep. | 1The angelic messenger who had been speaking with me then returned and woke me, as a person is wakened from sleep. |
Then he asked me, "What do you see?" So I said, "I have been watching—and look!—there is a menorah made completely of gold with a bowl on top of it. And there are seven lights on it, along with seven feeder channels to the lamps, which are also on top of it. | 2He asked me, "What do you see?" I replied, "I see a menorah of pure gold with a receptacle at the top and seven lamps, with fourteen pipes going to the lamps. |
Two olive trees are near it, one on the right side of the bowl and one on the left." | 3There are also two olive trees beside it, one on the right of the receptacle and the other on the left." |
Then I asked the angel who had been speaking with me, "Sir, what are these?" | 4Then I asked the messenger who spoke with me, "What are these, sir?" |
The angel who had been speaking with me answered by asking, "You don't know what these mean, do you?" So I responded, "No, sir." | 5He replied, "Don't you know what these are?" So I responded, "No, sir." |
Then he replied to me, "This is this message from the LORD to Zerubbabel: 'Not by valor nor by strength, but only by my Spirit,' says the LORD of the Heavenly Armies. | 6Therefore he told me, "These signify the word of the LORD to Zerubbabel: 'Not by strength and not by power, but by my Spirit,' says the LORD who rules over all." |
Who are you, great mountain? You will become a plain in Zerubbabel's presence, and he will position the capstone, exulting over it, "How beautiful! How beautiful!"'" | 7"What are you, you great mountain? Because of Zerubbabel you will become a level plain! And he will bring forth the temple capstone with shoutings of 'Grace! Grace!' because of this." |
Then this message from the LORD came to me again: | 8Moreover, the word of the LORD came to me as follows: |
"Zerubbabel's hands have laid the foundation of this Temple, and his hands will finish it, so that you will know that the LORD of the Heavenly Armies has sent me to all of you. | 9"The hands of Zerubbabel have laid the foundations of this temple, and his hands will complete it." Then you will know that the LORD who rules over all has sent me to you. |
For who has despised the time of insignificant things? They will rejoice to see the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel. These seven lights represent the eyes of the LORD, which are looking throughout all of the earth." | 10For who dares make light of small beginnings? These seven eyes will joyfully look on the tin tablet in Zerubbabel's hand. (These are the eyes of the LORD, which constantly range across the whole earth.) |
Then I asked the angel, "What are these two olive trees, one on the right of the menorah and one on the left?" | 11Next I asked the messenger, "What are these two olive trees on the right and the left of the menorah?" |
I also asked him a second question: "What are these two olive branches on either side of the two golden feeder channels that carry the golden oil to the seven lights?" | 12Before he could reply I asked again, "What are these two extensions of the olive trees, which are emptying out the golden oil through the two golden pipes?" |
The angel replied, "You don't know what these are, do you?" I responded to him, "No, sir." | 13He replied, "Don't you know what these are?" And I said, "No, sir." |
He said, "These are the two anointed ones, who stand continuously beside the Lord of the whole earth." | 14So he said, "These are the two anointed ones who stand by the Lord of the whole earth." |
