God blessed Noah and his sons and ordered them, "Be productive, multiply, and fill the earth. 1Then God blessed Noah and his sons and said to them, "Be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth.
All the living creatures of the earth will be filled with fear and terror of you from now on, including all the creatures that fly in the sky, everything that crawls on the ground, and all the fish of the ocean. They've been assigned to live under your dominion. 2Every living creature of the earth and every bird of the sky will be terrified of you. Everything that creeps on the ground and all the fish of the sea are under your authority.
"Every living, moving creature will be food for you. Just as I gave you green plants before, so now you have everything. 3You may eat any moving thing that lives. As I gave you the green plants, I now give you everything.
However, you are not to eat meat with its life—that is, its blood—in it! 4But you must not eat meat with its life (that is, its blood) in it.
Also, I will certainly demand an accounting regarding bloodshed, from every animal and from every human being. I'll demand an accounting from every human being for the life of another human being.5For your lifeblood I will surely exact punishment, from every living creature I will exact punishment. From each person I will exact punishment for the life of the individual since the man was his relative.
"Whoever sheds human blood, by a human his own blood is to be shed; because God made human beings in his own image.6"Whoever sheds human blood, by other humans must his blood be shed; for in God's image God has made humankind."
Now as for you, be productive and multiply; spread out over the land and multiply throughout it."7But as for you, be fruitful and multiply; increase abundantly on the earth and multiply on it."
Later, God told Noah and his sons, 8God said to Noah and his sons,
"Pay attention! I'm establishing my covenant with you and with your descendants after you, 9"Look! I now confirm my covenant with you and your descendants after you
and with every living creature that is with you—the flying creatures, the livestock, and all the wildlife of the earth that are with you—all the earth's animals that came out of the ark. 10and with every living creature that is with you, including the birds, the domestic animals, and every living creature of the earth with you, all those that came out of the ark with you--every living creature of the earth.
I will establish my covenant with you: No living beings will ever be cut off again by flood waters, and there will never again be a flood that destroys the earth."11I confirm my covenant with you: Never again will all living things be wiped out by the waters of a flood; never again will a flood destroy the earth."
God also said, "Here's the symbol that represents the covenant that I'm making between me and you and every living being with you, for all future generations: 12And God said, "This is the guarantee of the covenant I am making with you and every living creature with you, a covenant for all subsequent generations:
I've set my rainbow in the sky to symbolize the covenant between me and the earth. 13I will place my rainbow in the clouds, and it will become a guarantee of the covenant between me and the earth.
Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow becomes visible in the clouds, 14Whenever I bring clouds over the earth and the rainbow appears in the clouds,
I'll remember my covenant between me and you and every living creature, so that water will never again become a flood to destroy all living beings. 15then I will remember my covenant with you and with all living creatures of all kinds. Never again will the waters become a flood and destroy all living things.
When the rainbow is in the clouds, I will observe it and remember the everlasting covenant between God and all living beings on the earth."16When the rainbow is in the clouds, I will notice it and remember the perpetual covenant between God and all living creatures of all kinds that are on the earth."
God also told Noah, "This is the symbol of the covenant that I've established between me and everything that lives on the earth."17So God said to Noah, "This is the guarantee of the covenant that I am confirming between me and all living things that are on the earth."
Noah's sons who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. (Ham later fathered Canaan.) 18The sons of Noah who came out of the ark were Shem, Ham, and Japheth. (Now Ham was the father of Canaan.)
These three were Noah's sons, and from these men the whole earth was repopulated.19These were the sons of Noah, and from them the whole earth was populated.
Noah, a man of the soil, was the first to plant and farm a vineyard. 20Noah, a man of the soil, began to plant a vineyard.
He drank some of the wine, got drunk, and lay down naked right in the middle of his tent. 21When he drank some of the wine, he got drunk and uncovered himself inside his tent.
Ham, who fathered Canaan, saw his father's genitals and told his two brothers outside. 22Ham, the father of Canaan, saw his father's nakedness and told his two brothers who were outside.
Then Shem and Japheth took their father's cloak, laid it across both their shoulders, and walking backwards, they both covered their father's genitals. Their faces were turned away, and they did not see their father's genitals. 23Shem and Japheth took the garment and placed it on their shoulders. Then they walked in backwards and covered up their father's nakedness. Their faces were turned the other way so they did not see their father's nakedness.
When Noah sobered up and learned what his youngest son had done to him, 24When Noah awoke from his drunken stupor he learned what his youngest son had done to him.
he said, "Canaan is cursed! He will be the lowest of slaves to his relatives."25So he said, "Cursed be Canaan! The lowest of slaves he will be to his brothers."
He also said, "Blessed be the LORD God of Shem, and may Canaan be his slave.26He also said, "Worthy of praise is the LORD, the God of Shem! May Canaan be the slave of Shem!
May God make room for Japheth; may God live in Shem's tents, and may Canaan serve him."27May God enlarge Japheth's territory and numbers! May he live in the tents of Shem and may Canaan be his slave!"
Noah lived 350 years after the flood. 28After the flood Noah lived 350 years.
After Noah had lived a total of 950 years, he died.29The entire lifetime of Noah was 950 years, and then he died.
