For this reason I, Paul, am the prisoner of the Messiah Jesus for the sake of you gentiles. | 1For this reason I, Paul, a prisoner of Christ Jesus on behalf of you Gentiles— |
Surely you have heard about the responsibility of administering God's grace that was given to me on your behalf, | 2assuming that you have heard of the stewardship of God’s grace that was given to me for you, |
and how this secret was made known to me through a revelation, just as I wrote about briefly in the past. | 3how the mystery was made known to me by revelation, as I have written briefly. |
By reading this, you will be able to grasp my understanding of the secret about the Messiah, | 4When you read this, you can perceive my insight into the mystery of Christ, |
which in previous generations was not made known to human beings as it has now been revealed by the Spirit to God's holy apostles and prophets. This is that secret: | 5which was not made known to the sons of men in other generations as it has now been revealed to his holy apostles and prophets by the Spirit. |
The gentiles are heirs-in-common, members-in-common of the body, and common participants in what was promised by the Messiah Jesus through the gospel. | 6This mystery is that the Gentiles are fellow heirs, members of the same body, and partakers of the promise in Christ Jesus through the gospel. |
I have become a servant of this gospel according to the gift of God's grace that was given me by the working of his power. | 7Of this gospel I was made a minister according to the gift of God’s grace, which was given me by the working of his power. |
To me, the very least of all the saints, this grace was given so that I might proclaim to the gentiles the immeasurable wealth of the Messiah | 8To me, though I am the very least of all the saints, this grace was given, to preach to the Gentiles the unsearchable riches of Christ, |
and help everyone see how this secret that has been at work was hidden for ages by God, who created all things. | 9and to bring to light for everyone what is the plan of the mystery hidden for ages in God, who created all things, |
He did this so that now, through the church, the wisdom of God in all its variety might be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly realm | 10so that through the church the manifold wisdom of God might now be made known to the rulers and authorities in the heavenly places. |
in keeping with the eternal purpose that God carried out through the Messiah Jesus our Lord, | 11This was according to the eternal purpose that he has realized in Christ Jesus our Lord, |
in whom we have boldness and confident access through his faithfulness. | 12in whom we have boldness and access with confidence through our faith in him. |
So then, I ask you not to become discouraged because of my troubles on your behalf, which work toward your glory. | 13So I ask you not to lose heart over what I am suffering for you, which is your glory. |
This is the reason I bow my knees before the Father of our Lord Jesus, the Messiah, | 14For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, |
from whom every family in heaven and on earth receives its name. | 15from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, |
I pray that he would give you, according to his glorious riches, strength in your inner being and power through his Spirit, | 16that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, |
and that the Messiah would make his home in your hearts through faith. Then, having been rooted and grounded in love, | 17so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, |
you will be able to understand, along with all the saints, what is wide, long, high, and deep— | 18may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, |
that is, you will know the love of the Messiah — which transcends knowledge, and will be filled with all the fullness of God. | 19and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God. |
Now to the one who can do infinitely more than all we can ask or imagine according to the power that is working among us— | 20Now to him who is able to do far more abundantly than all that we ask or think, according to the power at work within us, |
to him be glory in the church and in the Messiah Jesus to all generations, forever and ever! Amen. | 21to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, forever and ever. Amen. |
