1The LORD continued his response to Job by saying:

1The LORD answered Job:

2"Should the one who is fighting the Almighty find fault with him? Let God's accuser answer."

2Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct him? Let him who argues with God give an answer.

3Then Job replied to the LORD. He said:

3Then Job answered the LORD:

4"I must look insignificant to you! How can I answer you? I'm speechless.

4I am so insignificant. How can I answer you? I place my hand over my mouth.

5I spoke once, but I can't answer; I tried a second time, but I won't do so anymore."

5I have spoken once, and I will not reply; twice, but now I can add nothing.

6The LORD answered Job from the wind storm and told him:

6Then the LORD answered Job from the whirlwind:

7"Stand up like a man! I'll ask you some questions, and you give me some answers!

7Get ready to answer me like a man; When I question you, you will inform me.

8Indeed would you annul my justice and condemn me, just so you can claim that you're righteous?

8Would you really challenge my justice? Would you declare me guilty to justify yourself?

9Do you have strength like God? Can you create thunder with a sound like he can?"

9Do you have an arm like God's? Can you thunder with a voice like his?

10"When you have adorned yourself with exalted majesty, clothed yourself with splendor and dignity,

10Adorn yourself with majesty and splendor, and clothe yourself with honor and glory.

11dispensed the fury of your anger, made sure that you have humbled every proud person,

11Pour out your raging anger; look on every proud person and humiliate him.

12stared down and subdued every proud person, trampled the wicked right where they are,

12Look on every proud person and humble him; trample the wicked where they stand.

13buried them in the dust together, and sent them bound to that secret place,

13Hide them together in the dust; imprison them in the grave.

14then I will applaud you myself! I'll admit that you can deliver yourself by your own efforts!"

14Then I will confess to you that your own right hand can deliver you.

15"Please observe Behemoth, which I made along with you. He eats grass like an ox.

15Look at Behemoth, which I made along with you. He eats grass like cattle.

16Now take a look at the strength that he has in his loins, and in the muscles of his abdomen.

16Look at the strength of his back and the power in the muscles of his belly.

17His tail protrudes stiffly, like cedar; the sinews of his thigh interlink for strength.

17He stiffens his tail like a cedar tree; the tendons of his thighs are woven firmly together.

18His bones are conduits of bronze; his strong bones are like bars of iron.

18His bones are bronze tubes; his limbs are like iron rods.

19He is the grandest of God's undertakings, yet his creator is approaching him with his sword.

19He is the foremost of God's works; only his Maker can draw the sword against him.

20Mountains produce food for him, where all the wild animals frolic.

20The hills yield food for him, while all sorts of wild animals play there.

21He lies under the lotus trees, hiding under reeds and marshes.

21He lies under the lotus plants, hiding in the protection of marshy reeds.

22The lotus trees cover him with their shade, and willows that line the wadis surround him.

22Lotus plants cover him with their shade; the willows by the brook surround him.

23What you see as a raging river doesn't alarm him; he is confident when the Jordan overflows.

23Though the river rages, Behemoth is unafraid; he remains confident, even if the Jordan surges up to his mouth.

24Are your eyes looking to capture him, or to pierce his snout with a bridle?"

24Can anyone capture him while he looks on, or pierce his nose with snares?
