English Standard Version | New Living Translation |
I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the LORD!” | 1I was glad when they said to me, “Let us go to the house of the LORD.” |
Our feet have been standing within your gates, O Jerusalem! | 2And now here we are, standing inside your gates, O Jerusalem. |
Jerusalem—built as a city that is bound firmly together, | 3Jerusalem is a well-built city; its seamless walls cannot be breached. |
to which the tribes go up, the tribes of the LORD, as was decreed for Israel, to give thanks to the name of the LORD. | 4All the tribes of Israel—the LORD’s people— make their pilgrimage here. They come to give thanks to the name of the LORD, as the law requires of Israel. |
There thrones for judgment were set, the thrones of the house of David. | 5Here stand the thrones where judgment is given, the thrones of the dynasty of David. |
Pray for the peace of Jerusalem! “May they be secure who love you! | 6Pray for peace in Jerusalem. May all who love this city prosper. |
Peace be within your walls and security within your towers!” | 7O Jerusalem, may there be peace within your walls and prosperity in your palaces. |
For my brothers and companions’ sake I will say, “Peace be within you!” | 8For the sake of my family and friends, I will say, “May you have peace.” |
For the sake of the house of the LORD our God, I will seek your good. | 9For the sake of the house of the LORD our God, I will seek what is best for you, O Jerusalem. |
