But you are to proclaim things consistent with sound teaching.1But as for you, speak the things that are consistent with sound doctrine.
Older men are to be self-controlled, worthy of respect, sensible, and sound in faith, love, and endurance.2Older men are to be temperate, dignified, self-controlled, and sound in faith, love, and perseverance.
In the same way, older women are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not slaves to excessive drinking. They are to teach what is good,3Older women, likewise, are to be reverent in their behavior, not slanderers or addicted to much wine, but teachers of good.
so that they may encourage the young women to love their husbands and to love their children,4In this way they can train the young women to love their husbands and children,
to be self-controlled, pure, workers at home, kind, and in submission to their husbands, so that God's word will not be slandered.5to be self-controlled, pure, managers of their households, kind, and submissive to their own husbands, so that the word of God will not be discredited.
In the same way, encourage the young men to be self-controlled6In the same way, urge the younger men to be self-controlled.
in everything. Make yourself an example of good works with integrity and dignity in your teaching.7In everything, show yourself to be an example by doing good works. In your teaching show integrity, dignity,
Your message is to be sound beyond reproach, so that any opponent will be ashamed, because he doesn't have anything bad to say about us.8and wholesome speech that is above reproach, so that anyone who opposes us will be ashamed to have nothing bad to say about us.
Slaves are to submit to their masters in everything, and to be well-pleasing, not talking back9Slaves are to submit to their own masters in everything, to be well-pleasing, not argumentative,
or stealing, but demonstrating utter faithfulness, so that they may adorn the teaching of God our Savior in everything.10not stealing from them, but showing all good faith, so that in every respect they will adorn the teaching about God our Savior.
For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people,11For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation to everyone.
instructing us to deny godlessness and worldly lusts and to live in a sensible, righteous, and godly way in the present age,12It instructs us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live sensible, upright, and godly lives in the present age,
while we wait for the blessed hope, the appearing of the glory of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ.13as we await the blessed hope and glorious appearance of our great God and Savior Jesus Christ.
He gave himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to cleanse for himself a people for his own possession, eager to do good works.14He gave Himself for us to redeem us from all lawlessness and to purify for Himself a people for His own possession, zealous for good deeds.
Proclaim these things; encourage and rebuke with all authority. Let no one disregard you.15Speak these things as you encourage and rebuke with all authority. Let no one despise you.
