For the choirmaster. According to Gittith. Of Asaph. Sing for joy to God our strength; make a joyful noise to the God of Jacob.1For the music director; according to the gittith style; by Asaph. Shout for joy to God, our source of strength! Shout out to the God of Jacob!
Lift up a song, strike the tambourine, play the sweet-sounding harp and lyre.2Sing a song and play the tambourine, the pleasant sounding harp, and the ten-stringed instrument!
Sound the ram’s horn at the New Moon, and at the full moon on the day of our Feast.3Sound the ram's horn on the day of the new moon, and on the day of the full moon when our festival begins.
For this is a statute for Israel, an ordinance of the God of Jacob.4For observing the festival is a requirement for Israel; it is an ordinance given by the God of Jacob.
He ordained it as a testimony for Joseph when he went out over the land of Egypt, where I heard an unfamiliar language:5He decreed it as a regulation in Joseph, when he attacked the land of Egypt. I heard a voice I did not recognize.
“I relieved his shoulder of the burden; his hands were freed from the basket.6It said: "I removed the burden from his shoulder; his hands were released from holding the basket.
You called out in distress, and I rescued you; I answered you from the cloud of thunder; I tested you at the waters of Meribah. Selah7In your distress you called out and I rescued you. I answered you from a dark thundercloud. I tested you at the waters of Meribah. (Selah)
Hear, O My people, and I will warn you: O Israel, if only you would listen to Me!8I said, 'Listen, my people! I will warn you! O Israel, if only you would obey me!
There must be no strange god among you, nor shall you bow to a foreign god.9There must be no other god among you. You must not worship a foreign god.
I am the LORD your God, who brought you up out of Egypt. Open wide your mouth, and I will fill it.10I am the LORD, your God, the one who brought you out of the land of Egypt. Open your mouth wide and I will fill it!'
But My people would not listen to Me, and Israel would not obey Me.11But my people did not obey me; Israel did not submit to me.
So I gave them up to their stubborn hearts to follow their own devices.12I gave them over to their stubborn desires; they did what seemed right to them.
If only My people would listen to Me, if Israel would follow My ways,13If only my people would obey me! If only Israel would keep my commands!
how soon I would subdue their enemies and turn My hand against their foes!14Then I would quickly subdue their enemies, and attack their adversaries."
Those who hate the LORD would feign obedience, and their doom would last forever.15(May those who hate the LORD cower in fear before him! May they be permanently humiliated!)
But I would feed you the finest wheat; with honey from the rock I would satisfy you.”16"I would feed Israel the best wheat, and would satisfy your appetite with honey from the rocky cliffs."
