Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, To the saints in Ephesus, the faithful in Christ Jesus: | 1Paul, an apostle of Jesus Christ by the will of God, to the saints which are at Ephesus, and to the faithful in Christ Jesus: |
Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ. | 2Grace be to you, and peace, from God our Father, and from the Lord Jesus Christ. |
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realms. | 3Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who hath blessed us with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ: |
For He chose us in Him before the foundation of the world to be holy and blameless in His presence. In love | 4According as he hath chosen us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love: |
He predestined us for adoption as His sons through Jesus Christ, according to the good pleasure of His will, | 5Having predestinated us unto the adoption of children by Jesus Christ to himself, according to the good pleasure of his will, |
to the praise of His glorious grace, which He has freely given us in the Beloved One. | 6To the praise of the glory of his grace, wherein he hath made us accepted in the beloved. |
In Him we have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of His grace | 7In whom we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, according to the riches of his grace; |
that He lavished on us with all wisdom and understanding. | 8Wherein he hath abounded toward us in all wisdom and prudence; |
And He has made known to us the mystery of His will according to His good pleasure, which He purposed in Christ | 9Having made known unto us the mystery of his will, according to his good pleasure which he hath purposed in himself: |
as a plan for the fullness of time, to bring all things in heaven and on earth together in Christ. | 10That in the dispensation of the fulness of times he might gather together in one all things in Christ, both which are in heaven, and which are on earth; even in him: |
In Him we were also chosen as God’s own, having been predestined according to the plan of Him who works out everything by the counsel of His will, | 11In whom also we have obtained an inheritance, being predestinated according to the purpose of him who worketh all things after the counsel of his own will: |
in order that we, who were the first to hope in Christ, would be for the praise of His glory. | 12That we should be to the praise of his glory, who first trusted in Christ. |
And in Him, having heard and believed the word of truth—the gospel of your salvation—you were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, | 13In whom ye also trusted, after that ye heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation: in whom also after that ye believed, ye were sealed with that holy Spirit of promise, |
who is the pledge of our inheritance until the redemption of those who are God’s possession, to the praise of His glory. | 14Which is the earnest of our inheritance until the redemption of the purchased possession, unto the praise of his glory. |
For this reason, ever since I heard about your faith in the Lord Jesus and your love for all the saints, | 15Wherefore I also, after I heard of your faith in the Lord Jesus, and love unto all the saints, |
I have not stopped giving thanks for you, remembering you in my prayers, | 16Cease not to give thanks for you, making mention of you in my prayers; |
that the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the glorious Father, may give you a spirit of wisdom and revelation in your knowledge of Him. | 17That the God of our Lord Jesus Christ, the Father of glory, may give unto you the spirit of wisdom and revelation in the knowledge of him: |
I ask that the eyes of your heart may be enlightened, so that you may know the hope of His calling, the riches of His glorious inheritance in the saints, | 18The eyes of your understanding being enlightened; that ye may know what is the hope of his calling, and what the riches of the glory of his inheritance in the saints, |
and the surpassing greatness of His power to us who believe. These are in accordance with the working of His mighty strength, | 19And what is the exceeding greatness of his power to us-ward who believe, according to the working of his mighty power, |
which He exerted in Christ when He raised Him from the dead and seated Him at His right hand in the heavenly realms, | 20Which he wrought in Christ, when he raised him from the dead, and set him at his own right hand in the heavenly places, |
far above all rule and authority, power and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in the present age but also in the one to come. | 21Far above all principality, and power, and might, and dominion, and every name that is named, not only in this world, but also in that which is to come: |
And God put everything under His feet and made Him head over everything for the church, | 22And hath put all things under his feet, and gave him to be the head over all things to the church, |
which is His body, the fullness of Him who fills all in all. | 23Which is his body, the fulness of him that filleth all in all. |
