1Now concerning the collection which is unto the saints, just as I have ordered (thoroughly systematically arranged) the churches of Galatia, so also are you to do.
2On every first day of the week, let each one of you set (put, place) by him, treasuring up (save up, store up, put away) what he may be prospered in, that there should be no collections when I come.
3And when I have arrived, whomever you may approve through letters, these I will send to carry your gracious gift unto Jerusalem.
4And if it is suitable (fitting, deserving, weigh in) for me to also go (transport), they will go (transport) with me. 5Now I will come to you when I have passed through Macedonia, for I am passing through Macedonia, 6And I will possibly stay with you or even pass the winter so that you may send me forward (aid/accompany/fit for a journey) wherever I may go (travel, journey, transport). 7For I do not wish to see you now just in passing. I hope to remain (fittingly persist on, stay on) with you for some time, if the Lord permits. 8But I will remain in Ephesus until Pentecost. 9For a large and effectual door (great and productive opportunity) has been opened and many are opposing. 10And if Timothy comes, see that he may be without fear with you, for he is doing the work of the Lord, even as I am. 11So no one should despise him. Set him forward in peace that he may come to me for I am expecting him with the brothers. 12Now concerning Apollos, our brother, I greatly entreated him that he should go to you with the brothers, but it was not at all his wish that he should come now, but he will come when he has opportunity. 13Be vigilant (watchful, stay awake, latin-vigilate), stand firm (latin-state) in the faith, act as men, grow in strength (prevailing, gaining mastery, kratos at its root). 14Let all be done of you in love. 15Now I entreat you, brothers-- you know the house of Stephanas that it is the first-fruit of Achaia and that they have devoted themselves to the service (deaconing, ministration) to the saints, 16That you also be subject to such as these and to everyone cooperating with us and laboring (until exhaustion). 17I rejoice at the coming of Stephanas and Fortunatus and Achaicus, because they have filled up your deficiency. 18For they gave rest to my spirit and yours, therefore recognize such as these. 19The churches of Asia greet you. Aquila and Prisca greet you much in the Lord together with the church in their house. 20All the brothers greet you. Greet one another with a holy kiss (philema- kiss sharing warm affection between friends). 21I, Paul, write this greeting with my own hand. 22If anyone does not love (philei-show warm affection in intimate friendship) the Lord, let him be accursed (anathema). Maranatha! (Our Lord has come! in Aramaic) 23The grace of the Lord Jesus be with you. 24My love be with you all in Christ Jesus. Amen. |
