Old Testament Foundations

The Old Testament lays the groundwork for understanding compassion as an attribute of God. In Exodus 34:6, God reveals Himself to Moses, proclaiming, "The LORD, the LORD God, compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in loving devotion and truth." This declaration underscores that compassion is intrinsic to God's nature. The Hebrew word for compassion, "racham," is often associated with a deep, tender love, akin to the love a parent has for a child.
