These concepts are frequently juxtaposed, with strength being portrayed as a divine gift and pride as a human failing that leads to downfall.

Strength

Strength in the Bible is often associated with God's power and might, as well as the empowerment of His people. It is depicted as a divine attribute that God imparts to those who trust in Him. In Isaiah 40:31 , it is written, "But those who wait upon the LORD will renew their strength; they will mount up with wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary; they will walk and not faint." Here, strength is a result of reliance on God, symbolizing spiritual vitality and endurance.

The strength of God is also a source of protection and deliverance. In Psalm 18:2 , David declares, "The LORD is my rock, my fortress, and my deliverer. My God is my rock, in whom I take refuge, my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold." Pride

The account of King Nebuchadnezzar in the Book of Daniel illustrates the consequences of pride. In Daniel 4:30-31 , Nebuchadnezzar boasts about his achievements, saying, "Is this not Babylon the Great, which I myself have built by the might of my power and for the glory of my majesty?" Immediately, a voice from heaven declares his impending downfall, demonstrating how pride leads to divine judgment and humbling.

Pride is also seen as a barrier to receiving God's grace. James 4:6 states, "But He gives us more grace. This is why it says: 'God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.'" This passage underscores the biblical principle that humility is essential for receiving God's favor, while pride invites His opposition.

Interplay of Strength and Pride

The interplay between strength and pride is evident throughout Scripture, where reliance on God's strength is commended, and self-exaltation is condemned. The Apostle Paul exemplifies this balance in 2 Corinthians 12:9-10 , where he writes, "But He said to me, 'My grace is sufficient for you, for My power is perfected in weakness.' Therefore I will boast all the more gladly in my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest on me. That is why, for the sake of Christ, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong."
