The term "molested" refers to the act of subjecting someone to unwanted or improper sexual advances or activity. While the Bible does not use the term "molested" explicitly, it addresses issues of sexual immorality, abuse, and the sanctity of the human body, which can be applied to the understanding of such acts.

Biblical Context

1. Sanctity of the Body: The Bible emphasizes the sanctity of the human body as a temple of the Holy Spirit. In 1 Corinthians 6:19-20 , it is written, "Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own; you were bought at a price. Therefore glorify God with your body." This passage underscores the importance of respecting one's own body and the bodies of others, highlighting the sinfulness of violating another person.

2. Sexual Immorality: Scripture consistently condemns sexual immorality in all its forms. In 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5 , Paul writes, "For it is God’s will that you should be holy: You must abstain from sexual immorality; each of you must know how to control his own body in holiness and honor, not in lustful passion like the Gentiles who do not know God." This passage calls believers to live in holiness and to avoid any form of sexual misconduct.

3. Protection of the Vulnerable: The Bible places a strong emphasis on protecting the vulnerable, including children and those who cannot defend themselves. Jesus Himself spoke of the seriousness of causing harm to children. In Matthew 18:6 , He states, "But if anyone causes one of these little ones who believe in Me to stumble, it would be better for him to have a large millstone hung around his neck and to be drowned in the depths of the sea." This severe warning reflects the gravity of harming the innocent.

4. Justice and Retribution: The Old Testament law provided for justice and retribution in cases of sexual violence. Deuteronomy 22:25-27 addresses the punishment for a man who violates a woman, stating that the man should be put to death for his crime. This reflects the seriousness with which such acts were regarded and the need for justice for the victim.

5. Healing and Restoration: The Bible also offers hope for healing and restoration for those who have been victimized. Psalm 147:3 declares, "He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds." This assurance of God's healing power provides comfort to those who have suffered from abuse, affirming that God is close to the brokenhearted and desires to restore them.

Application for Believers

Believers are called to uphold the dignity and worth of every individual, recognizing that all people are made in the image of God (Genesis 1:27). This understanding compels Christians to stand against any form of abuse or exploitation and to advocate for the protection and healing of victims. The church is called to be a place of refuge and support, offering compassion and assistance to those who have been harmed.

Furthermore, Christians are encouraged to live lives of purity and self-control, as instructed in Galatians 5:22-23 , which lists the fruit of the Spirit, including self-control. By embodying these virtues, believers can contribute to a culture that respects and honors the sanctity of the human body and relationships.
