Me-jarkon is a location mentioned in the Old Testament, specifically within the context of the territorial boundaries of the tribe of Dan. The name "Me-jarkon" translates to "waters of the Jarkon" or "yellow waters," which suggests a geographical feature associated with water, possibly a river or stream with distinctive coloration.

Biblical Reference:

Me-jarkon is referenced in the Book of Joshua, which details the allotment of the Promised Land among the twelve tribes of Israel. In Joshua 19:40-46, the passage outlines the inheritance of the tribe of Dan. The Berean Standard Bible states:

"The seventh lot came out for the tribe of Dan according to its clans. The territory of their inheritance included Zorah, Eshtaol, Ir-shemesh, Shaalabbin, Aijalon, Ithlah, Elon, Timnah, Ekron, Eltekeh, Gibbethon, Baalath, Jehud, Bene-berak, Gath-rimmon, Me-jarkon, and Rakkon, with the area facing Joppa."

In this passage, Me-jarkon is listed among the cities and regions that formed the boundary of Dan's inheritance. The mention of Me-jarkon alongside other notable locations provides insight into the geographical extent of Dan's territory, which was situated in the western part of the land, near the Mediterranean coast.

Geographical and Historical Context:

The precise identification of Me-jarkon remains uncertain, as it is not extensively described in biblical texts or corroborated by archaeological findings. However, its inclusion in the list of Danite cities suggests it was a significant landmark within the tribal boundaries. The name's association with water implies that it may have been near a river or a body of water, possibly contributing to the fertility and agricultural potential of the region.

The tribe of Dan, initially settled in this coastal area, faced challenges from the Philistines and other neighboring peoples. This pressure eventually led some Danites to migrate northward, as recounted in Judges 18, where they established a new settlement in the city of Laish, later renamed Dan.

Theological Significance:

From a theological perspective, the mention of Me-jarkon in the delineation of tribal territories underscores the fulfillment of God's promise to the descendants of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. The allocation of land to each tribe was a tangible manifestation of the covenant relationship between God and Israel. It also highlights the importance of land in the identity and heritage of the Israelite tribes, serving as a physical reminder of God's provision and faithfulness.

In summary, while Me-jarkon is not a prominent location in biblical narratives, its inclusion in the territorial description of Dan reflects the broader themes of divine promise, inheritance, and the challenges faced by the tribes in settling the Promised Land.

ME-JARKON

me-jar'-kon (me ha-yarqon; thalassa Hierakon): The Hebrew may mean "yellow water." The phrase is literally, "the waters of Jarkon." Septuagint reads "and from the river, Jarkon and the boundary near Joppa." From this possibly we should infer a place called Jarkon in the lot of Dan; but no name resembling this has been found.
