In the context of the Bible, "displays" can refer to various manifestations, demonstrations, or exhibitions of God's power, human emotions, or spiritual truths. These displays can be physical, such as signs and wonders, or they can be more abstract, such as the display of virtues or divine attributes.

Divine Displays of Power and Glory

Throughout Scripture, God frequently displays His power and glory to affirm His sovereignty and to guide, protect, and instruct His people. One of the most notable displays is the parting of the Red Sea, where God delivered the Israelites from the Egyptians. Exodus 14:21-22 states, "Then Moses stretched out his hand over the sea, and all that night the LORD drove the sea back with a strong east wind and turned it into dry land. So the waters were divided, and the Israelites went through the sea on dry ground, with walls of water on their right and on their left."

Another significant display is the giving of the Ten Commandments on Mount Sinai, where God's presence was accompanied by thunder, lightning, and a thick cloud (Exodus 19:16-19). These displays served to instill reverence and obedience among the Israelites.

Displays of Jesus' Miracles

The New Testament records numerous displays of Jesus' miraculous power, which served to authenticate His divine nature and mission. In John 2:11 , the turning of water into wine at the wedding in Cana is described as "the first of the signs through which He revealed His glory; and His disciples believed in Him." Jesus' miracles, such as healing the sick, raising the dead, and feeding the multitudes, were displays of compassion and divine authority.

Displays of Human Emotions and Actions

The Bible also records displays of human emotions and actions, both positive and negative. For example, King David's dance before the Ark of the Covenant was a display of exuberant worship and joy (2 Samuel 6:14). Conversely, the display of pride and arrogance by King Nebuchadnezzar led to his temporary downfall, as recorded in Daniel 4:30-33.

Displays of Virtues and Spiritual Gifts

Believers are called to display virtues and spiritual gifts as a testimony to their faith and the work of the Holy Spirit within them. Galatians 5:22-23 lists the fruit of the Spirit as "love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control." These virtues are to be displayed in the life of a Christian as evidence of spiritual maturity and Christlikeness.

Displays in Worship and Praise

Worship in the Bible often involves displays of reverence, adoration, and praise. The Psalms are replete with calls to display worship through singing, shouting, and playing instruments. Psalm 150:3-5 exhorts, "Praise Him with the sound of the trumpet; praise Him with the harp and lyre. Praise Him with tambourine and dancing; praise Him with strings and flute. Praise Him with clashing cymbals; praise Him with resounding cymbals."

Conclusion

The concept of displays in the Bible encompasses a wide range of manifestations, from divine acts and miracles to human emotions and spiritual virtues. These displays serve various purposes, including revealing God's character, authenticating His messengers, and encouraging believers to live out their faith visibly and vibrantly.
