1“And write this letter to the angel of the church in Sardis: ‘This is the message from the One Who has the Seven Spirits of God, and the seven stars. I know all you do, that you are reputed to be alive, but you are dead. 2Wake up! And strengthen those few things that remain, that are almost dead; for I have not found your actions acceptable before God. 3Remember, therefore, what you have heard and been taught, and hold firmly to it, and repent. If you do not awaken, I will come upon you like a thief, when you least expect Me. 4You still have a few there in the church in Sardis who have not soiled their garments with sins, and they shall walk with Me in white; for they are worthy. 5All who overcome shall be clothed in white; and I will not erase their names from the book of life, but I will announce their names before My Father, and before His angels, that they are Mine. 6Those who have ears, let them hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches.’ 7“And write this letter to the angel of the church in Philadelphia: ‘This is the message from the One Who is holy and true, He that has the key of David, He that opens, and no man shuts; and shuts, and no man opens. 8I know all that you do; and I have opened a door for you that no man can shut; you have little strength, and yet have obeyed Me, and have not denied My name. 9Behold, I will make those of the synagogue of Satan, who claim to be Jews, but are not; I will make those liars come and bow at your feet; and they shall acknowledge that I have loved you. 10Because you have obeyed My word to patiently persevere, I will also protect you from the time of great testing that shall come upon all the world to test those that belong to this world. 11I will come quickly; hold fast to what you have, so that no one takes your crown. 12I will make all that overcome pillars in the Temple of My God, and they shall never have to leave it; and I will write upon them the name of My God, and they shall be citizens of the city of My God, the new Jerusalem, which will come down out of heaven from My God; and I will write upon them My new name. 13Let anyone that has ears hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’ 14“And write this letter to the angel of the church of the Laodiceans: ‘This is the message from the One Who is the Amen - the faithful and true Witness, the beginning (agent) of the creation of God. 15I know all that you do; and that you are neither cold nor hot; I wish you were one or the other - cold or hot! 16But since you are lukewarm - neither cold nor hot - I will spew you out of My mouth. 17Because you say, “I am rich, and have all that I need.”, and do not even know that you are wretched, miserable, poor, blind, and naked, 18I advise you to buy from Me gold purified in the fire, that you may indeed be rich; and white clothing, so that the shame of your nakedness does not appear; and anoint your eyes with salve, that you may see. 19As many as I love, I discipline and correct; so be earnest, and diligently turn from your indifference (Prov.3:12). 20Behold, I am standing at the door, and knocking; if you will hear My voice, and open the door, I will come in to you, and share a meal with you as friends. 21I will grant to those that overcome the right to sit with Me on My throne - just as I also overcame, and am now seated with My Father on His throne. 22Let anyone that has ears hear what the Spirit says to the churches.’” Reader-Friendly Bible: Purple Letter Edition © 2024 by Jim Musser.
