1“To the angel of the church of Ephesus write: ‘These are the words of Him Who holds the seven stars in His right hand, and Who walks among the seven golden lampstands. 2I know all that you do, and have seen your hard work, and your patient perseverance. I know that you cannot tolerate evil people; and you have tested those who falsely claim they are apostles, and have found them to be liars. 3You have patiently endured hardships for My name's sake, and have not grown weary. 4And yet, I do have this against you: you have lost the fervor of the love you once had for Me, and for one another; 5So reflect upon how far you have fallen! Turn back to Me, and do as you did at first, or else I will come and remove your lampstand from its place among the churches. 6But you do have this in your favor: you hate the practices of the Nicolaitans (those who teach that God’s grace gives license to engage in all manner of wickedness with impunity), which I hate as well. 7Whoever has ears, let him hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches: To everyone who is victorious, I will give the privilege of eating the fruit of the tree of life in the paradise of God.’ 8“And write this to the angel of the church in Smyrna: ‘This is the message from Him Who is the First and the Last, Who died and is now alive again. 9I know about your suffering and poverty - but you are rich! I know about the blasphemy of those who say they are Jews, and are not, because they belong to the synagogue of Satan. 10Do not fear what you are about to suffer. I tell you, the devil will throw some of you into prison, to test you; and you shall suffer persecution for ten days. Remain faithful, even to the point of death, and I will give you life as a crown of victory. 11Anyone who has ears must listen to what the Spirit says to the churches: Whoever remains faithful (victorious) shall not be harmed at all by the second death.’ 12“And write this to the angel of the church in Pergamum: ‘This is the message from Him Who has the sharp double-edged sword. 13I know where you live – in the city where Satan's throne is; and yet you remain true to My name, and have not renounced your faith in Me, not even in those days when Antipas, My faithful witness, was slain among you there in the city where Satan lives. 14But yet I have a few things against you, because you allow some to live among you whose doctrine is that of Balaam (Num.31:16), who taught Balak to entice the children of Israel, to sin by eating things sacrificed to idols, and to engage in sexual perversion. 15And you also tolerate among you those that hold the doctrine of the Nicolaitans, which I hate. 16Repent, or else I will come suddenly, and will fight against them (of the Nicolaitan doctrine) with the sword of My mouth. 17Whoever has ears, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches: I will give to those that overcome, manna to eat, that has been hidden away in heaven; and I will also give each of them a white stone with a new name written on it, which no man knows except those who receive it.’ 18“And write this to the angel of the church in Thyatira: ‘This is the message from the Son of God, Who has eyes like a blazing flame, and Whose feet are like fine burnished bronze. 19“I know all that you do, I know your love, service, faith, and your perseverance; and that you are doing more now than at first. 20Nevertheless, I still have a few things against you, because you allow that woman - that Jezebel who calls herself a prophetess, to teach, mislead and entice My servants into sexual perversion, and to eat food sacrificed to idols. 21And I gave her time to repent of her immorality, and she never repented. 22And so, I will throw her into a bed of suffering, and cause those who commit adultery with her to suffer intensely, unless they turn from their evil deeds. 23And I will strike her children dead; and then all the churches shall know that I am He Who searches the hearts and minds (Ps.7:9); and I will give each of you what you deserve. 24But to the rest of you in Thyatira, to those who do not hold to her evil teaching, and who have not learned the so-called “deep secrets” – which are really the depths of Satan - I also say that I will impose no further burden upon you, 25Beyond what you already have, except that you hold firmly to what you have until I come. 26And to those that overcome, and obey Me until the very end, I will give authority over all nations; 27And they shall rule the nations with a rod (scepter) of iron; and they shall shatter them into shards like clay pottery (Ps.2:9); exercising the same authority that I received from My Father. 28And I will also give them the morning star! 29Anyone who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit is saying to the churches.’ Reader-Friendly Bible: Purple Letter Edition © 2024 by Jim Musser.
