Michtam of David, to teach; Upon the conquest of Edom by Joab 1O God, You have been displeased; and have rejected and scattered us. O LORD, return to us again. 2You have caused the earth to quake, and to split open; heal its fissures; for it trembles. 3You have shown Your people hardships; You have made us drink wine that makes us stagger. 4But to those who fear You, You have given a banner, that it may be unfurled as a rallying point, in honor and truth. Selah. 5 Save us by Your right hand, that those You love may be rescued; as you answer us. 6God has spoken from His sanctuary, “I will rejoice as I divide Shechem, and measure out the valley of Succoth. 7Gilead is Mine, and Manasseh is Mine; Ephraim also is My helmet; Judah is My scepter (lawgiver). 8Moab is My washbasin; on Edom I will wipe My feet; over Philistia I shout in triumph.” 9Who will bring me (David) into the fortified and besieged city (capital of Idumea)? Who will lead me into Edom? 10Have You not abandoned us, O God? And will You, O God, no longer go out with our armies? 11Help us in our time of trouble; for help from man is a vain hope. 12With Your help we shall do valiantly; for it is You Who shall trampled our enemies.
