Michtam of David, when Saul sent men to watch David’s house to kill him. 1Rescue me from my enemies, O my God; protect me from those who rise against me. 2Deliver me from these evil doers; save me from blood-thirsty men. 3For they lie in wait for my soul; the strong are gathered against me, but not due to my transgression, nor my sin, O LORD. 4They prepare their assault, apart from any fault of mine; take note, and help me. 5O LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel, awake to visit all the nations; show no mercy to any that are wicked. Selah. 6They come out at night, and snarl like vicious dogs, as they prowl about the city. 7Note what they spew out of their mouths - sharp, sarcastic words; and they who, say, “Who hears?” 8But You, O LORD, shall laugh at them; You shall deride such nations. 9Because of their strength, I will wait upon You; O God, for my defense. 10My God of mercy shall meet me; God shall let me see vengeance upon my enemies. 11Do not annihilate them, lest my people forget; but uproot and scatter them by Your power, O LORD, our shield. 12For the sins of their mouths, the words of their lips, cursing and lying, let them be snared by their own pride. 13Consume them in wrath, consume them, that they are no more; and that men to the ends of the earth may know that God rules over Jacob. Selah. 14Let them come out at night, and snarl like vicious dogs, prowling about the city. 15Let them wander up and down for food, and keep on looking all night, and howl if they are not satisfied. 16But I will sing of Your power; yea, I will sing aloud of Your mercy in the morning; for You have been my defense and refuge in the day of my trouble. 17Unto You, O my strength, will I sing; for God is my defense, and the God of my mercy.
