1In that day this song shall be sung in the land of Judah: “We have a strong city; we are surrounded by the walls and bulwarks of His salvation. 2Open the gates, so that the righteous and faithful nation may enter. 3You will keep in perfect peace those whose minds are steadfast in their trust in You. 4Trust in the LORD always; for the LORD GOD is the everlasting Rock: 5He humbles those who dwell on high; the lofty city He lays low, clear to the ground; He brings it into the dust. 6Feet shall trample it down, - the feet of the poor, and the oppressed. 7The path of the just is level; You, most upright One, smooth the path of the just. 8Yes, in obeying Your judgments, O LORD, we have waited for You; Your name, and renown is the desire of our soul. 9My soul yearns for You in the night; my spirit will I seek You early in the morning; for when Your judgments are in the earth, its inhabitants learn righteousness. 10But even when kindness is shown to the wicked, they still will not learn righteousness; even in the land of uprightness they will deal corruptly, and will not regard the majesty of the LORD. 11LORD, when Your hand is raised, they will not see it; but they shall see, and be ashamed, when the fire reserved for Your enemies devours them. 12LORD, You will establish peace for us; for all our accomplishments You have enabled for us. 13O LORD our God, other rulers beside You have ruled over us; but only Your name will we honor. 14Those other rulers are now dead; they are gone and shall never rise; for You have destroyed them, and erased all memory of them. 15You have increased the nation, O LORD; You have extended its borders to the ends of the earth; and so we give You glory; 16LORD, they have come to You in trouble; but even when Your chastening was upon them, they barely whispered out a prayer. 17We been in Your sight, O LORD, like a woman with child, whose time of delivery draws near, is in pain, and cries out in her pangs. 18We were with child, we have been in pain, but what we have brought forth is wind; we have not brought any salvation to the earth, nor have the we brought new life into this fallen world. 19But Your dead shall live, LORD; their dead bodies shall rise. Awake and sing for joy, you who dwell in dust; for Your life-giving light is like the dew of morning, and the earth will give birth to her dead. 20Come, my people, enter your rooms, and shut your doors behind you; hide yourselves for a brief moment, until His indignation has past. 21For, behold, the LORD is coming from heaven to punish the inhabitants of the earth for their sins; the earth also shall reveal the blood shed on it, and shall no more conceal her slain.” Reader-Friendly Bible: Purple Letter Edition © 2024 by Jim Musser.
