1But regarding the times and the seasons, brothers, and sisters, you have no need for me to write to you. 2For you know perfectly well that the day of the Lord will come unexpectedly, like a thief in the night. 3While people are saying, “Peace and safety”; then destruction shall come upon them suddenly, like labor pains upon a woman with child; and there shall be no escape. 4But you, brothers and sisters, are not in the dark about these things, that that day should surprise you like a thief. 5You are all children of light, and of the day; we do not belong to the night, or darkness. 6So, let us not sleep, as others do, but let us be awake and alert. 7For those that sleep, sleep at night; and those that get drunk are drunk at night. 8But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love, and for a helmet, the hope of salvation. 9For God has not destined us for wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, 10Who died for us, that, whether we are alive or dead, we shall live together with Him. 11Therefore, comfort and encourage one another, and build each other up, just as you already do. 12And we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge and honor those who labor among you, who give you spiritual guidance in the Lord, 13And to hold them in highest esteem for the sake of the work they do. And live in peace with each other. 14Now we urge you, brothers, and sisters, to warn those that are idle or disruptive. Encourage those that are discouraged, help the weak, be patient with everyone. 15See that no one pays back others, evil for evil; but always pursue what is good, both among yourselves, and among all other people. 16Rejoice always. 17Pray without ceasing. 18Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus. 19Do not quench the Spirit. 20Do not despise or treat prophesies with contemp. 21But test them all; and hold fast to that which is good. 22Avoid even the appearance of evil. 23And may the very God of peace sanctify you through and through; and keep your whole spirit, soul, and body blameless until the returning of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24Faithful is He Who has called you, and Who will also bring it to pass. 25Brothers and sisters, pray for us. 26Greet all God’s people with a holy kiss. 27I charge you before the Lord that this epistle (letter) be read to all the brothers and sisters in Christ. 28May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.
