1When Israel departed from Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of foreign tongue, 1בְּצֵ֣את יִ֭שְׂרָאֵל מִמִּצְרָ֑יִם בֵּ֥ית יַ֝עֲקֹ֗ב מֵעַ֥ם לֹעֵֽז׃
2Judah became [God’s] sanctuary, Israel His dominion. 2הָיְתָ֣ה יְהוּדָ֣ה לְקָדְשׁ֑וֹ יִ֝שְׂרָאֵ֗ל מַמְשְׁלוֹתָֽיו׃
3The sea observed and fled; the Jordan turned back; 3הַיָּ֣ם רָ֭אָה וַיָּנֹ֑ס הַ֝יַּרְדֵּ֗ן יִסֹּ֥ב לְאָחֽוֹר׃
4the mountains skipped like rams, the hills like lambs. 4הֶֽ֭הָרִים רָקְד֣וּ כְאֵילִ֑ים גְּ֝בָע֗וֹת כִּבְנֵי־ צֹֽאן׃
5Why was it, O sea, that you fled, O Jordan, that you turned back, 5מַה־ לְּךָ֣ הַ֭יָּם כִּ֣י תָנ֑וּס הַ֝יַּרְדֵּ֗ן תִּסֹּ֥ב לְאָחֽוֹר׃
6O mountains, that you skipped like rams, O hills, like lambs? 6הֶֽ֭הָרִים תִּרְקְד֣וּ כְאֵילִ֑ים גְּ֝בָע֗וֹת כִּבְנֵי־ צֹֽאן׃
7Tremble, O earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob, 7מִלִּפְנֵ֣י אָ֭דוֹן ח֣וּלִי אָ֑רֶץ מִ֝לִּפְנֵ֗י אֱל֣וֹהַּ יַעֲקֹֽב׃
8who turned the rock into a pool, the flint into a fountain of water. 8הַהֹפְכִ֣י הַצּ֣וּר אֲגַם־ מָ֑יִם חַ֝לָּמִ֗ישׁ לְמַעְיְנוֹ־ מָֽיִם׃
