While they were at Hazeroth, Miriam and Aaron criticized Moses because he had married a Cushite woman.1Then Miriam and Aaron spoke against Moses because of the Cushite woman he had married (for he had married an Ethiopian woman).
They said, “Has the LORD spoken only through Moses? Hasn’t he spoken through us, too?” But the LORD heard them.2They said, "Has the LORD only spoken through Moses? Has he not also spoken through us?" And the LORD heard it.
(Now Moses was very humble—more humble than any other person on earth.)3(Now the man Moses was very humble, more so than any man on the face of the earth.)
So immediately the LORD called to Moses, Aaron, and Miriam and said, “Go out to the Tabernacle, all three of you!” So the three of them went to the Tabernacle.4The LORD spoke immediately to Moses, Aaron, and Miriam: "The three of you come to the tent of meeting." So the three of them went.
Then the LORD descended in the pillar of cloud and stood at the entrance of the Tabernacle. “Aaron and Miriam!” he called, and they stepped forward.5And the LORD came down in a pillar of cloud and stood at the entrance of the tent; he then called Aaron and Miriam, and they both came forward.
And the LORD said to them, “Now listen to what I say: “If there were prophets among you, I, the LORD, would reveal myself in visions. I would speak to them in dreams.6The LORD said, "Hear now my words: If there is a prophet among you, I the LORD will make myself known to him in a vision; I will speak with him in a dream.
But not with my servant Moses. Of all my house, he is the one I trust.7My servant Moses is not like this; he is faithful in all my house.
I speak to him face to face, clearly, and not in riddles! He sees the LORD as he is. So why were you not afraid to criticize my servant Moses?”8With him I will speak face to face, openly, and not in riddles; and he will see the form of the LORD. Why then were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?"
The LORD was very angry with them, and he departed.9The anger of the LORD burned against them, and he departed.
As the cloud moved from above the Tabernacle, there stood Miriam, her skin as white as snow from leprosy. When Aaron saw what had happened to her,10When the cloud departed from above the tent, Miriam became leprous as snow. Then Aaron looked at Miriam, and she was leprous!
he cried out to Moses, “Oh, my master! Please don’t punish us for this sin we have so foolishly committed.11So Aaron said to Moses, "O my lord, please do not hold this sin against us, in which we have acted foolishly and have sinned!
Don’t let her be like a stillborn baby, already decayed at birth.”12Do not let her be like a baby born dead, whose flesh is half-consumed when it comes out of its mother's womb!"
So Moses cried out to the LORD, “O God, I beg you, please heal her!”13Then Moses cried to the LORD, "Heal her now, O God."
But the LORD said to Moses, “If her father had done nothing more than spit in her face, wouldn’t she be defiled for seven days? So keep her outside the camp for seven days, and after that she may be accepted back.”14The LORD said to Moses, "If her father had only spit in her face, would she not have been disgraced for seven days? Shut her out from the camp seven days, and afterward she can be brought back in again."
So Miriam was kept outside the camp for seven days, and the people waited until she was brought back before they traveled again.15So Miriam was shut outside of the camp for seven days, and the people did not journey on until Miriam was brought back in.
Then they left Hazeroth and camped in the wilderness of Paran.16After that the people moved from Hazeroth and camped in the wilderness of Paran.
