Then the LORD said to Moses,1Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying,
“Set up the Tabernacle on the first day of the new year.2"On the first day of the first month you shall set up the tabernacle of the tent of meeting.
Place the Ark of the Covenant inside, and install the inner curtain to enclose the Ark within the Most Holy Place.3"You shall place the ark of the testimony there, and you shall screen the ark with the veil.
Then bring in the table, and arrange the utensils on it. And bring in the lampstand, and set up the lamps.4"You shall bring in the table and arrange what belongs on it; and you shall bring in the lampstand and mount its lamps.
“Place the gold incense altar in front of the Ark of the Covenant. Then hang the curtain at the entrance of the Tabernacle.5"Moreover, you shall set the gold altar of incense before the ark of the testimony, and set up the veil for the doorway to the tabernacle.
Place the altar of burnt offering in front of the Tabernacle entrance.6"You shall set the altar of burnt offering in front of the doorway of the tabernacle of the tent of meeting.
Set the washbasin between the Tabernacle and the altar, and fill it with water.7"You shall set the laver between the tent of meeting and the altar and put water in it.
Then set up the courtyard around the outside of the tent, and hang the curtain for the courtyard entrance.8"You shall set up the court all around and hang up the veil for the gateway of the court.
“Take the anointing oil and anoint the Tabernacle and all its furnishings to consecrate them and make them holy.9"Then you shall take the anointing oil and anoint the tabernacle and all that is in it, and shall consecrate it and all its furnishings; and it shall be holy.
Anoint the altar of burnt offering and its utensils to consecrate them. Then the altar will become absolutely holy.10"You shall anoint the altar of burnt offering and all its utensils, and consecrate the altar, and the altar shall be most holy.
Next anoint the washbasin and its stand to consecrate them.11"You shall anoint the laver and its stand, and consecrate it.
“Present Aaron and his sons at the entrance of the Tabernacle, and wash them with water.12"Then you shall bring Aaron and his sons to the doorway of the tent of meeting and wash them with water.
Dress Aaron with the sacred garments and anoint him, consecrating him to serve me as a priest.13"You shall put the holy garments on Aaron and anoint him and consecrate him, that he may minister as a priest to Me.
Then present his sons and dress them in their tunics.14"You shall bring his sons and put tunics on them;
Anoint them as you did their father, so they may also serve me as priests. With their anointing, Aaron’s descendants are set apart for the priesthood forever, from generation to generation.”15and you shall anoint them even as you have anointed their father, that they may minister as priests to Me; and their anointing will qualify them for a perpetual priesthood throughout their generations."
Moses proceeded to do everything just as the LORD had commanded him.16Thus Moses did; according to all that the LORD had commanded him, so he did.
So the Tabernacle was set up on the first day of the first month of the second year.17Now in the first month of the second year, on the first day of the month, the tabernacle was erected.
Moses erected the Tabernacle by setting down its bases, inserting the frames, attaching the crossbars, and setting up the posts.18Moses erected the tabernacle and laid its sockets, and set up its boards, and inserted its bars and erected its pillars.
Then he spread the coverings over the Tabernacle framework and put on the protective layers, just as the LORD had commanded him.19He spread the tent over the tabernacle and put the covering of the tent on top of it, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
He took the stone tablets inscribed with the terms of the covenant and placed them inside the Ark. Then he attached the carrying poles to the Ark, and he set the Ark’s cover—the place of atonement—on top of it.20Then he took the testimony and put it into the ark, and attached the poles to the ark, and put the mercy seat on top of the ark.
Then he brought the Ark of the Covenant into the Tabernacle and hung the inner curtain to shield it from view, just as the LORD had commanded him.21He brought the ark into the tabernacle, and set up a veil for the screen, and screened off the ark of the testimony, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
Next Moses placed the table in the Tabernacle, along the north side of the Holy Place, just outside the inner curtain.22Then he put the table in the tent of meeting on the north side of the tabernacle, outside the veil.
And he arranged the Bread of the Presence on the table before the LORD, just as the LORD had commanded him.23He set the arrangement of bread in order on it before the LORD, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
He set the lampstand in the Tabernacle across from the table on the south side of the Holy Place.24Then he placed the lampstand in the tent of meeting, opposite the table, on the south side of the tabernacle.
Then he lit the lamps in the LORD’s presence, just as the LORD had commanded him.25He lighted the lamps before the LORD, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
He also placed the gold incense altar in the Tabernacle, in the Holy Place in front of the inner curtain.26Then he placed the gold altar in the tent of meeting in front of the veil;
On it he burned the fragrant incense, just as the LORD had commanded him.27and he burned fragrant incense on it, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
He hung the curtain at the entrance of the Tabernacle,28Then he set up the veil for the doorway of the tabernacle.
and he placed the altar of burnt offering near the Tabernacle entrance. On it he offered a burnt offering and a grain offering, just as the LORD had commanded him.29He set the altar of burnt offering before the doorway of the tabernacle of the tent of meeting, and offered on it the burnt offering and the meal offering, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
Next Moses placed the washbasin between the Tabernacle and the altar. He filled it with water so the priests could wash themselves.30He placed the laver between the tent of meeting and the altar and put water in it for washing.
Moses and Aaron and Aaron’s sons used water from it to wash their hands and feet.31From it Moses and Aaron and his sons washed their hands and their feet.
Whenever they approached the altar and entered the Tabernacle, they washed themselves, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.32When they entered the tent of meeting, and when they approached the altar, they washed, just as the LORD had commanded Moses.
Then he hung the curtains forming the courtyard around the Tabernacle and the altar. And he set up the curtain at the entrance of the courtyard. So at last Moses finished the work. The LORD’s Glory Fills the Tabernacle33He erected the court all around the tabernacle and the altar, and hung up the veil for the gateway of the court. Thus Moses finished the work.
Then the cloud covered the Tabernacle, and the glory of the LORD filled the Tabernacle.34Then the cloud covered the tent of meeting, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.
Moses could no longer enter the Tabernacle because the cloud had settled down over it, and the glory of the LORD filled the Tabernacle.35Moses was not able to enter the tent of meeting because the cloud had settled on it, and the glory of the LORD filled the tabernacle.
Now whenever the cloud lifted from the Tabernacle, the people of Israel would set out on their journey, following it.36Throughout all their journeys whenever the cloud was taken up from over the tabernacle, the sons of Israel would set out;
But if the cloud did not rise, they remained where they were until it lifted.37but if the cloud was not taken up, then they did not set out until the day when it was taken up.
The cloud of the LORD hovered over the Tabernacle during the day, and at night fire glowed inside the cloud so the whole family of Israel could see it. This continued throughout all their journeys.38For throughout all their journeys, the cloud of the LORD was on the tabernacle by day, and there was fire in it by night, in the sight of all the house of Israel.
