Psalm 10
NLT Parallel ISV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New Living TranslationInternational Standard Version
O LORD, why do you stand so far away? Why do you hide when I am in trouble?1 Why do you stand far away, LORD? Why do you hide in times of distress?
The wicked arrogantly hunt down the poor. Let them be caught in the evil they plan for others.2The wicked one arrogantly pursues the afflicted, who are trapped in the schemes he devises.
For they brag about their evil desires; they praise the greedy and curse the LORD.3For the wicked one boasts about his own desire; he blesses the greedy and despises the LORD.
The wicked are too proud to seek God. They seem to think that God is dead.4With haughty arrogance, the wicked thinks, "God will not seek justice." He always presumes "There is no God."
Yet they succeed in everything they do. They do not see your punishment awaiting them. They sneer at all their enemies.5Their ways always seem prosperous. Your judgments are on high, far away from them. They scoff at all their enemies.
They think, “Nothing bad will ever happen to us! We will be free of trouble forever!”6They say to themselves, "We will not be moved throughout all time, and we will not experience adversity."
Their mouths are full of cursing, lies, and threats. Trouble and evil are on the tips of their tongues.7Their mouth is full of curses, lies, and oppression, their tongues spread trouble and iniquity.
They lurk in ambush in the villages, waiting to murder innocent people. They are always searching for helpless victims.8They wait in ambush in the villages, they kill the innocent in secret.
Like lions crouched in hiding, they wait to pounce on the helpless. Like hunters they capture the helpless and drag them away in nets.9Their eyes secretly watch the helpless, lying in wait like a lion in his den. They lie in wait to catch the afflicted. They catch the afflicted when they pull him into their net.
Their helpless victims are crushed; they fall beneath the strength of the wicked.10The victim is crushed, and he sinks down; the helpless fall by their might.
The wicked think, “God isn’t watching us! He has closed his eyes and won’t even see what we do!”11The wicked say to themselves, "God has forgotten, he has hidden his face, he will never see it."
Arise, O LORD! Punish the wicked, O God! Do not ignore the helpless!12Rise up, LORD! Raise your hand, God. Don't forget the afflicted!
Why do the wicked get away with despising God? They think, “God will never call us to account.”13Why do the wicked despise God and say to themselves, "God will not seek justice."?
But you see the trouble and grief they cause. You take note of it and punish them. The helpless put their trust in you. You defend the orphans.14But you do see! You take note of trouble and grief in order to take the matter into your own hand. The helpless one commits himself to you; you have been the orphan's helper.
Break the arms of these wicked, evil people! Go after them until the last one is destroyed.15Break the arm of the wicked and evil man; so that when you seek out his wickedness you will find it no more.
The LORD is king forever and ever! The godless nations will vanish from the land.16The LORD is king forever and ever; nations will perish from his land.
LORD, you know the hopes of the helpless. Surely you will hear their cries and comfort them.17LORD, you heard the desire of the afflicted; you will strengthen them, you will listen carefully,
You will bring justice to the orphans and the oppressed, so mere people can no longer terrify them.18to do justice for the orphan and the oppressed, so that men of the earth may cause terror no more.
