New Living Translation | English Standard Version |
LORD, remember David and all that he suffered. | 1Remember, O LORD, in David’s favor, all the hardships he endured, |
He made a solemn promise to the LORD. He vowed to the Mighty One of Israel, | 2how he swore to the LORD and vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob, |
“I will not go home; I will not let myself rest. | 3“I will not enter my house or get into my bed, |
I will not let my eyes sleep nor close my eyelids in slumber | 4I will not give sleep to my eyes or slumber to my eyelids, |
until I find a place to build a house for the LORD, a sanctuary for the Mighty One of Israel.” | 5until I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob.” |
We heard that the Ark was in Ephrathah; then we found it in the distant countryside of Jaar. | 6Behold, we heard of it in Ephrathah; we found it in the fields of Jaar. |
Let us go to the sanctuary of the LORD; let us worship at the footstool of his throne. | 7“Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool!” |
Arise, O LORD, and enter your resting place, along with the Ark, the symbol of your power. | 8Arise, O LORD, and go to your resting place, you and the ark of your might. |
May your priests be clothed in godliness; may your loyal servants sing for joy. | 9Let your priests be clothed with righteousness, and let your saints shout for joy. |
For the sake of your servant David, do not reject the king you have anointed. | 10For the sake of your servant David, do not turn away the face of your anointed one. |
The LORD swore an oath to David with a promise he will never take back: “I will place one of your descendants on your throne. | 11The LORD swore to David a sure oath from which he will not turn back: “One of the sons of your body I will set on your throne. |
If your descendants obey the terms of my covenant and the laws that I teach them, then your royal line will continue forever and ever.” | 12If your sons keep my covenant and my testimonies that I shall teach them, their sons also forever shall sit on your throne.” |
For the LORD has chosen Jerusalem ; he has desired it for his home. | 13For the LORD has chosen Zion; he has desired it for his dwelling place: |
“This is my resting place forever,” he said. “I will live here, for this is the home I desired. | 14“This is my resting place forever; here I will dwell, for I have desired it. |
I will bless this city and make it prosperous; I will satisfy its poor with food. | 15I will abundantly bless her provisions; I will satisfy her poor with bread. |
I will clothe its priests with godliness; its faithful servants will sing for joy. | 16Her priests I will clothe with salvation, and her saints will shout for joy. |
Here I will increase the power of David; my anointed one will be a light for my people. | 17There I will make a horn to sprout for David; I have prepared a lamp for my anointed. |
I will clothe his enemies with shame, but he will be a glorious king.” | 18His enemies I will clothe with shame, but on him his crown will shine.” |
