New Living Translation | English Standard Version |
I lift my eyes to you, O God, enthroned in heaven. | 1To you I lift up my eyes, O you who are enthroned in the heavens! |
We keep looking to the LORD our God for his mercy, just as servants keep their eyes on their master, as a slave girl watches her mistress for the slightest signal. | 2Behold, as the eyes of servants look to the hand of their master, as the eyes of a maidservant to the hand of her mistress, so our eyes look to the LORD our God, till he has mercy upon us. |
Have mercy on us, LORD, have mercy, for we have had our fill of contempt. | 3Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us, for we have had more than enough of contempt. |
We have had more than our fill of the scoffing of the proud and the contempt of the arrogant. | 4Our soul has had more than enough of the scorn of those who are at ease, of the contempt of the proud. |
