| 1This is the book of the genealogy of Adam. In the day that God created man, He made him in the likeness of God. | 1This is the record of the family line of Adam. When God created humankind, he made them in the likeness of God. |
| 2He created them male and female, and blessed them and called them Mankind in the day they were created. | 2He created them male and female; when they were created, he blessed them and named them "humankind." |
| 3And Adam lived one hundred and thirty years, and begot a son in his own likeness, after his image, and named him Seth. | 3When Adam had lived 130 years he fathered a son in his own likeness, according to his image, and he named him Seth. |
| 4After he begot Seth, the days of Adam were eight hundred years; and he had sons and daughters. | 4The length of time Adam lived after he became the father of Seth was 800 years; during this time he had other sons and daughters. |
| 5So all the days that Adam lived were nine hundred and thirty years; and he died. | 5The entire lifetime of Adam was 930 years, and then he died. |
| 6Seth lived one hundred and five years, and begot Enosh. | 6When Seth had lived 105 years, he became the father of Enosh. |

| 13After he begot Mahalalel, Cainan lived eight hundred and forty years, and had sons and daughters. | 13Kenan lived 840 years after he became the father of Mahalalel, and he had other sons and daughters. |
| 14So all the days of Cainan were nine hundred and ten years; and he died. | 14The entire lifetime of Kenan was 910 years, and then he died. |
| 15Mahalalel lived sixty-five years, and begot Jared. | 15When Mahalalel had lived 65 years, he became the father of Jared. |
| 16After he begot Jared, Mahalalel lived eight hundred and thirty years, and had sons and daughters. | 16Mahalalel lived 830 years after he became the father of Jared, and he had other sons and daughters. |
| 17So all the days of Mahalalel were eight hundred and ninety-five years; and he died. | 17The entire lifetime of Mahalalel was 895 years, and then he died. |
| 18Jared lived one hundred and sixty-two years, and begot Enoch. | 18When Jared had lived 162 years, he became the father of Enoch. |

| 23So all the days of Enoch were three hundred and sixty-five years. | 23The entire lifetime of Enoch was 365 years. |
| 24And Enoch walked with God; and he was not, for God took him. | 24Enoch walked with God, and then he disappeared because God took him away. |
| 25Methuselah lived one hundred and eighty-seven years, and begot Lamech. | 25When Methuselah had lived 187 years, he became the father of Lamech. |
| 26After he begot Lamech, Methuselah lived seven hundred and eighty-two years, and had sons and daughters. | 26Methuselah lived 782 years after he became the father of Lamech, and he had other sons and daughters. |
| 27So all the days of Methuselah were nine hundred and sixty-nine years; and he died. | 27The entire lifetime of Methuselah was 969 years, and then he died. |
| 28Lamech lived one hundred and eighty-two years, and had a son. | 28When Lamech had lived 182 years, he had a son. |
| 29And he called his name Noah, saying, “This one will comfort us concerning our work and the toil of our hands, because of the ground which the LORD has cursed.” | 29He named him Noah, saying, "This one will bring us comfort from our labor and from the painful toil of our hands because of the ground that the LORD has cursed." |
| 30After he begot Noah, Lamech lived five hundred and ninety-five years, and had sons and daughters. | 30Lamech lived 595 years after he became the father of Noah, and he had other sons and daughters. |
| 31So all the days of Lamech were seven hundred and seventy-seven years; and he died. | 31The entire lifetime of Lamech was 777 years, and then he died. |
| 32And Noah was five hundred years old, and Noah begot Shem, Ham, and Japheth. | 32After Noah was 500 years old, he became the father of Shem, Ham, and Japheth. |
