New King James Version | International Standard Version |
A Song. A Psalm of the sons of Korah. Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised In the city of our God, In His holy mountain. | 1Great is the LORD! For he is to be praised greatly, even in the city of our God, his holy mountain. |
Beautiful in elevation, The joy of the whole earth, Is Mount Zion on the sides of the north, The city of the great King. | 2Beautifully situated, the joy of all the earth, Mount Zion towards the north, the city of the great King. |
God is in her palaces; He is known as her refuge. | 3Within her citadels God is known as a place of refuge. |
For behold, the kings assembled, They passed by together. | 4Behold, when the kings assembled together, when they traveled together, |
They saw it, and so they marveled; They were troubled, they hastened away. | 5they looked and were awestruck; they became afraid and ran away. |
Fear took hold of them there, And pain, as of a woman in birth pangs, | 6Trembling seized them there, pains like those of a woman in labor, |
As when You break the ships of Tarshish With an east wind. | 7as when an east wind destroyed the ships of Tarshish. |
As we have heard, So we have seen In the city of the LORD of hosts, In the city of our God: God will establish it forever. Selah | 8Just as we have heard, so have we seen; in the city of the LORD of the heavenly armies— even in the city of our God— God will establish her forever. Interlude |
We have thought, O God, on Your lovingkindness, In the midst of Your temple. | 9God, we have meditated on your gracious love in the midst of your Temple. |
According to Your name, O God, So is Your praise to the ends of the earth; Your right hand is full of righteousness. | 10God, according to your name, so is your praise to the ends of the earth. Your right hand is filled with righteousness. |
Let Mount Zion rejoice, Let the daughters of Judah be glad, Because of Your judgments. | 11Mount Zion will be glad; the towns of Judah will rejoice because of your judgments. |
Walk about Zion, And go all around her. Count her towers; | 12March around Zion; encircle her; count her towers. |
Mark well her bulwarks; Consider her palaces; That you may tell it to the generation following. | 13Take note of her ramparts; investigate her citadels; that you may speak about them to the next generation. |
For this is God, Our God forever and ever; He will be our guide Even to death. | 14For this God is our God forever and ever. He will guide us until death. |
