| 1Now the whole world had one language and a common speech. | 1Now the whole earth used the same language and the same words. |

| 24When Nahor had lived 29 years, he became the father of Terah. | 24Nahor lived twenty-nine years, and became the father of Terah; |

| 26After Terah had lived 70 years, he became the father of Abram, Nahor and Haran. | 26Terah lived seventy years, and became the father of Abram, Nahor and Haran. |
| 27This is the account of Terah's family line. Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor and Haran. And Haran became the father of Lot. | 27Now these are the records of the generations of Terah. Terah became the father of Abram, Nahor and Haran; and Haran became the father of Lot. |
| 28While his father Terah was still alive, Haran died in Ur of the Chaldeans, in the land of his birth. | 28Haran died in the presence of his father Terah in the land of his birth, in Ur of the Chaldeans. |
| 29Abram and Nahor both married. The name of Abram's wife was Sarai, and the name of Nahor's wife was Milkah; she was the daughter of Haran, the father of both Milkah and Iskah. | 29Abram and Nahor took wives for themselves. The name of Abram's wife was Sarai; and the name of Nahor's wife was Milcah, the daughter of Haran, the father of Milcah and Iscah. |
| 30Now Sarai was childless because she was not able to conceive. | 30Sarai was barren; she had no child. |
| 31Terah took his son Abram, his grandson Lot son of Haran, and his daughter-in-law Sarai, the wife of his son Abram, and together they set out from Ur of the Chaldeans to go to Canaan. But when they came to Harran, they settled there. | 31Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran, his grandson, and Sarai his daughter-in-law, his son Abram's wife; and they went out together from Ur of the Chaldeans in order to enter the land of Canaan; and they went as far as Haran, and settled there. |
| 32Terah lived 205 years, and he died in Harran. | 32The days of Terah were two hundred and five years; and Terah died in Haran. |
