The one who loves discipline loves knowledge, but the one who hates reproof is stupid. 1Whoso loveth instruction loveth knowledge: but he that hateth reproof is brutish.
A good person obtains favor from the LORD, but the LORD condemns a person with wicked schemes. 2A good man obtaineth favour of the LORD: but a man of wicked devices will he condemn.
No one can be established through wickedness, but a righteous root cannot be moved. 3A man shall not be established by wickedness: but the root of the righteous shall not be moved.
A noble wife is the crown of her husband, but the wife who acts shamefully is like rottenness in his bones. 4A virtuous woman is a crown to her husband: but she that maketh ashamed is as rottenness in his bones.
The plans of the righteous are just; the counsels of the wicked are deceitful. 5The thoughts of the righteous are right: but the counsels of the wicked are deceit.
The words of the wicked lie in wait to shed innocent blood, but the words of the upright will deliver them. 6The words of the wicked are to lie in wait for blood: but the mouth of the upright shall deliver them.
The wicked are overthrown and perish, but the righteous household will stand. 7The wicked are overthrown, and are not: but the house of the righteous shall stand.
A person is praised in accordance with his wisdom, but the one who has a twisted mind is despised. 8A man shall be commended according to his wisdom: but he that is of a perverse heart shall be despised.
Better is a person of humble standing who nevertheless has a servant, than one who pretends to be somebody important yet has no food. 9He that is despised, and hath a servant, is better than he that honoureth himself, and lacketh bread.
A righteous person cares for the life of his animal, but even the most compassionate acts of the wicked are cruel. 10A righteous man regardeth the life of his beast: but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel.
The one who works his field will have plenty of food, but whoever chases daydreams lacks wisdom. 11He that tilleth his land shall be satisfied with bread: but he that followeth vain persons is void of understanding.
The wicked person desires a stronghold, but the righteous root endures. 12The wicked desireth the net of evil men: but the root of the righteous yieldeth fruit.
The evil person is ensnared by the transgression of his speech, but the righteous person escapes out of trouble. 13The wicked is snared by the transgression of his lips: but the just shall come out of trouble.
A person will be satisfied with good from the fruit of his words, and the work of his hands will be rendered to him. 14A man shall be satisfied with good by the fruit of his mouth: and the recompence of a man's hands shall be rendered unto him.
The way of a fool is right in his own opinion, but the one who listens to advice is wise. 15The way of a fool is right in his own eyes: but he that hearkeneth unto counsel is wise.
A fool's annoyance is known at once, but the prudent overlooks an insult. 16A fool's wrath is presently known: but a prudent man covereth shame.
The faithful witness tells what is right, but a false witness speaks deceit. 17He that speaketh truth sheweth forth righteousness: but a false witness deceit.
Speaking recklessly is like the thrusts of a sword, but the words of the wise bring healing. 18There is that speaketh like the piercings of a sword: but the tongue of the wise is health.
The one who tells the truth will endure forever, but the one who lies will last only for a moment. 19The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.
Deceit is in the heart of those who plot evil, but those who promote peace have joy. 20Deceit is in the heart of them that imagine evil: but to the counsellers of peace is joy.
The righteous do not encounter any harm, but the wicked are filled with calamity. 21There shall no evil happen to the just: but the wicked shall be filled with mischief.
The LORD abhors a person who lies, but those who deal truthfully are his delight. 22Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.
The shrewd person conceals knowledge, but foolish people publicize folly. 23A prudent man concealeth knowledge: but the heart of fools proclaimeth foolishness.
The diligent person will rule, but the slothful will become a slave. 24The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute.
Anxiety in a person's heart weighs him down, but an encouraging word brings him joy. 25Heaviness in the heart of man maketh it stoop: but a good word maketh it glad.
The righteous person is cautious in his friendship, but the way of the wicked leads them astray. 26The righteous is more excellent than his neighbour: but the way of the wicked seduceth them.
The lazy person does not roast his prey, but personal possessions are precious to the diligent. 27The slothful man roasteth not that which he took in hunting: but the substance of a diligent man is precious.
In the path of righteousness there is life, but another path leads to death. 28In the way of righteousness is life; and in the pathway thereof there is no death.
