| 1For every high priest is taken from among the people and appointed to represent them before God, to offer both gifts and sacrifices for sins. | 1For every high priest selected from among men is appointed to officiate on their behalf in matters relating to God, that is, to offer gifts and sacrifices for sins. |
| 2He is able to deal compassionately with those who are ignorant and erring, since he also is subject to weakness, | 2He can deal gently with people who are ignorant and easily deceived, since he himself is subject to weakness. |
