New American Standard Bible 1995 | New Living Translation |
A Song of Ascents. In my trouble I cried to the LORD, And He answered me. | 1I took my troubles to the LORD; I cried out to him, and he answered my prayer. |
Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips, From a deceitful tongue. | 2Rescue me, O LORD, from liars and from all deceitful people. |
What shall be given to you, and what more shall be done to you, You deceitful tongue? | 3O deceptive tongue, what will God do to you? How will he increase your punishment? |
Sharp arrows of the warrior, With the burning coals of the broom tree. | 4You will be pierced with sharp arrows and burned with glowing coals. |
Woe is me, for I sojourn in Meshech, For I dwell among the tents of Kedar! | 5How I suffer in far-off Meshech. It pains me to live in distant Kedar. |
Too long has my soul had its dwelling With those who hate peace. | 6I am tired of living among people who hate peace. |
I am for peace, but when I speak, They are for war. | 7I search for peace; but when I speak of peace, they want war! |
