When Israel went forth from Egypt, The house of Jacob from a people of strange language, | 1When Israel went out of Egypt, the house of Jacob from a people of strange language; |
Judah became His sanctuary, Israel, His dominion. | 2Judah was his sanctuary, and Israel his dominion. |
The sea looked and fled; The Jordan turned back. | 3The sea saw it, and fled: Jordan was driven back. |
The mountains skipped like rams, The hills, like lambs. | 4The mountains skipped like rams, and the little hills like lambs. |
What ails you, O sea, that you flee? O Jordan, that you turn back? | 5What ailed thee, O thou sea, that thou fleddest? thou Jordan, that thou wast driven back? |
O mountains, that you skip like rams? O hills, like lambs? | 6Ye mountains, that ye skipped like rams; and ye little hills, like lambs? |
Tremble, O earth, before the Lord, Before the God of Jacob, | 7Tremble, thou earth, at the presence of the Lord, at the presence of the God of Jacob; |
Who turned the rock into a pool of water, The flint into a fountain of water. | 8Which turned the rock into a standing water, the flint into a fountain of waters. |
