Psalm 10
NASB Parallel ESV [BSB CSB ESV HCS KJV ISV NAS NET NIV NLT HEB]
New American Standard Bible 1995English Standard Version
Why do You stand afar off, O LORD? Why do You hide Yourself in times of trouble?1Why, O LORD, do you stand far away? Why do you hide yourself in times of trouble?
In pride the wicked hotly pursue the afflicted; Let them be caught in the plots which they have devised.2In arrogance the wicked hotly pursue the poor; let them be caught in the schemes that they have devised.
For the wicked boasts of his heart's desire, And the greedy man curses and spurns the LORD.3For the wicked boasts of the desires of his soul, and the one greedy for gain curses and renounces the LORD.
The wicked, in the haughtiness of his countenance, does not seek Him. All his thoughts are, "There is no God."4In the pride of his face the wicked does not seek him; all his thoughts are, “There is no God.”
His ways prosper at all times; Your judgments are on high, out of his sight; As for all his adversaries, he snorts at them.5His ways prosper at all times; your judgments are on high, out of his sight; as for all his foes, he puffs at them.
He says to himself, "I will not be moved; Throughout all generations I will not be in adversity."6He says in his heart, “I shall not be moved; throughout all generations I shall not meet adversity.”
His mouth is full of curses and deceit and oppression; Under his tongue is mischief and wickedness.7His mouth is filled with cursing and deceit and oppression; under his tongue are mischief and iniquity.
He sits in the lurking places of the villages; In the hiding places he kills the innocent; His eyes stealthily watch for the unfortunate.8He sits in ambush in the villages; in hiding places he murders the innocent. His eyes stealthily watch for the helpless;
He lurks in a hiding place as a lion in his lair; He lurks to catch the afflicted; He catches the afflicted when he draws him into his net.9he lurks in ambush like a lion in his thicket; he lurks that he may seize the poor; he seizes the poor when he draws him into his net.
He crouches, he bows down, And the unfortunate fall by his mighty ones.10The helpless are crushed, sink down, and fall by his might.
He says to himself, "God has forgotten; He has hidden His face; He will never see it."11He says in his heart, “God has forgotten, he has hidden his face, he will never see it.”
Arise, O LORD; O God, lift up Your hand. Do not forget the afflicted.12Arise, O LORD; O God, lift up your hand; forget not the afflicted.
Why has the wicked spurned God? He has said to himself, "You will not require it."13Why does the wicked renounce God and say in his heart, “You will not call to account”?
You have seen it, for You have beheld mischief and vexation to take it into Your hand. The unfortunate commits himself to You; You have been the helper of the orphan.14But you do see, for you note mischief and vexation, that you may take it into your hands; to you the helpless commits himself; you have been the helper of the fatherless.
Break the arm of the wicked and the evildoer, Seek out his wickedness until You find none.15Break the arm of the wicked and evildoer; call his wickedness to account till you find none.
The LORD is King forever and ever; Nations have perished from His land.16The LORD is king forever and ever; the nations perish from his land.
O LORD, You have heard the desire of the humble; You will strengthen their heart, You will incline Your ear17O LORD, you hear the desire of the afflicted; you will strengthen their heart; you will incline your ear
To vindicate the orphan and the oppressed, So that man who is of the earth will no longer cause terror.18to do justice to the fatherless and the oppressed, so that man who is of the earth may strike terror no more.
