A Song; a Psalm of the sons of Korah. Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised, In the city of our God, His holy mountain. | 1The LORD is great and highly praised in the city of our God. His holy mountain, |
Beautiful in elevation, the joy of the whole earth, Is Mount Zion in the far north, The city of the great King. | 2rising splendidly, is the joy of the whole earth. Mount Zion--the summit of Zaphon-- is the city of the great King. |
God, in her palaces, Has made Himself known as a stronghold. | 3God is known as a stronghold in its citadels. |
For, lo, the kings assembled themselves, They passed by together. | 4Look! The kings assembled; they advanced together. |
They saw it, then they were amazed; They were terrified, they fled in alarm. | 5They looked and froze with fear; they fled in terror. |
Panic seized them there, Anguish, as of a woman in childbirth. | 6Trembling seized them there, agony like that of a woman in labor, |
With the east wind You break the ships of Tarshish. | 7as you wrecked the ships of Tarshish with the east wind. |
As we have heard, so have we seen In the city of the LORD of hosts, in the city of our God; God will establish her forever. Selah. | 8Just as we heard, so we have seen in the city of the LORD of Armies, in the city of our God; God will establish it forever. Selah |
We have thought on Your lovingkindness, O God, In the midst of Your temple. | 9God, within your temple, we contemplate your faithful love. |
As is Your name, O God, So is Your praise to the ends of the earth; Your right hand is full of righteousness. | 10Like your name, God, so your praise reaches to the ends of the earth; your right hand is filled with justice. |
Let Mount Zion be glad, Let the daughters of Judah rejoice Because of Your judgments. | 11Mount Zion is glad. Judah's villages rejoice because of your judgments. |
Walk about Zion and go around her; Count her towers; | 12Go around Zion, encircle it; count its towers, |
Consider her ramparts; Go through her palaces, That you may tell it to the next generation. | 13note its ramparts; tour its citadels so that you can tell a future generation: |
For such is God, Our God forever and ever; He will guide us until death. | 14"This God, our God forever and ever--he will always lead us." |
