King James Bible | New Living Translation |
A Song of degrees. Unto thee lift I up mine eyes, O thou that dwellest in the heavens. | 1I lift my eyes to you, O God, enthroned in heaven. |
Behold, as the eyes of servants look unto the hand of their masters, and as the eyes of a maiden unto the hand of her mistress; so our eyes wait upon the LORD our God, until that he have mercy upon us. | 2We keep looking to the LORD our God for his mercy, just as servants keep their eyes on their master, as a slave girl watches her mistress for the slightest signal. |
Have mercy upon us, O LORD, have mercy upon us: for we are exceedingly filled with contempt. | 3Have mercy on us, LORD, have mercy, for we have had our fill of contempt. |
Our soul is exceedingly filled with the scorning of those that are at ease, and with the contempt of the proud. | 4We have had more than our fill of the scoffing of the proud and the contempt of the arrogant. |
