God takes his stand in the divine assembly; among the divine beings he renders judgment: | 1God has taken his place in the divine council; in the midst of the gods he holds judgment: |
"How long will you judge partially by showing favor on the wicked? Interlude | 2“How long will you judge unjustly and show partiality to the wicked? Selah |
"Defend the poor and the fatherless. Vindicate the afflicted and the poor. | 3Give justice to the weak and the fatherless; maintain the right of the afflicted and the destitute. |
Rescue the poor and the needy, delivering them from the power of the wicked. | 4Rescue the weak and the needy; deliver them from the hand of the wicked.” |
They neither know nor understand; they walk about in the dark while all the foundations of the earth are shaken. | 5They have neither knowledge nor understanding, they walk about in darkness; all the foundations of the earth are shaken. |
"Indeed I said, 'You are gods, and all of you are sons of the Most High. | 6I said, “You are gods, sons of the Most High, all of you; |
However, as all human beings do, you will die, and like other rulers, you will fall.' | 7nevertheless, like men you shall die, and fall like any prince.” |
Arise, God, to judge the earth, for all nations belong to you. | 8Arise, O God, judge the earth; for you shall inherit all the nations! |
