Miriam and Aaron rebelled against Moses on account of the Cushite woman that he had married. 1Miriam and Aaron criticized Moses because of the Cushite woman he married (for he had married a Cushite woman).
They asked, "Has the LORD spoken only through Moses? Hasn't he also spoken through us?" But the LORD heard it.2They said, "Does the LORD speak only through Moses? Does he not also speak through us?" And the LORD heard it.
Now the man Moses was very humble—more than any person on earth. 3Moses was a very humble man, more so than anyone on the face of the earth.
All of a sudden, the LORD told Moses, Aaron, and Miriam, "The three of you are to come out to the Tent of Meeting." So the three of them went out. 4Suddenly the LORD said to Moses, Aaron, and Miriam, "You three come out to the tent of meeting." So the three of them went out.
Then the LORD came down in a pillar of cloud, stood at the entrance to the Tent of Meeting, and summoned Aaron and Miriam. So both of them went forward.5Then the LORD descended in a pillar of cloud, stood at the entrance to the tent, and summoned Aaron and Miriam. When the two of them came forward,
Then he told the two of them: "Pay attention to what I have to say! When there is a prophet among you, won't I, the LORD, reveal myself to him in a vision? Won't I speak with him in a dream? 6he said: "Listen to what I say: If there is a prophet among you from the LORD, I make myself known to him in a vision; I speak with him in a dream.
But that's not how it is with my servant Moses, since he has been entrusted with my entire household! 7Not so with my servant Moses; he is faithful in all my household.
I speak to him audibly and in visions, not in mysteries. If he can gaze at the image of the LORD, why aren't you afraid to speak against my servant Moses?" 8I speak with him directly, openly, and not in riddles; he sees the form of the LORD. So why were you not afraid to speak against my servant Moses?"
Because the LORD was very angry with them, he left, 9The LORD's anger burned against them, and he left.
but when the cloud ascended from the tent, Miriam had become leprous, as white as snow! Aaron turned toward Miriam, and she had leprosy!10As the cloud moved away from the tent, Miriam's skin suddenly became diseased, resembling snow. When Aaron turned toward her, he saw that she was diseased
Aaron begged Moses, "I pray my lord, please don't hold this sin against us, since we've acted foolishly and sinned in doing so. 11and said to Moses, "My lord, please don't hold against us this sin we have so foolishly committed.
Please don't let her be like one of the living dead, who is born with a congenital skin disease." 12Please don't let her be like a dead baby whose flesh is half eaten away when he comes out of his mother's womb."
So Moses prayed to the LORD: "O LORD, please heal her."13Then Moses cried out to the LORD, "God, please heal her!"
But the LORD told Moses, "If her father had merely spit in her face, wouldn't she be humiliated? She is to be placed in isolation for seven days. After that, she may be brought in." 14The LORD answered Moses, "If her father had merely spit in her face, wouldn't she remain in disgrace for seven days? Let her be confined outside the camp for seven days; after that she may be brought back in."
So Miriam was isolated outside the camp for seven days and the people didn't travel until Miriam was brought in. 15So Miriam was confined outside the camp for seven days, and the people did not move on until Miriam was brought back in.
After that, the people traveled from Hazeroth and encamped in the Wilderness of Paran.16After that, the people set out from Hazeroth and camped in the Wilderness of Paran.
