| 1The LORD spoke to Moses, " | 1Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, |
| 2Command the Israelites and say to them: When you enter the land of Canaan, it will be allotted to you as an inheritance with these borders: | 2"Command the sons of Israel and say to them, 'When you enter the land of Canaan, this is the land that shall fall to you as an inheritance, even the land of Canaan according to its borders. |
| 3Your southern side will be from the Wilderness of Zin along the boundary of Edom. Your southern border on the east will begin at the east end of the Dead Sea. | 3'Your southern sector shall extend from the wilderness of Zin along the side of Edom, and your southern border shall extend from the end of the Salt Sea eastward. |
| 4Your border will turn south of the Ascent of Akrabbim, proceed to Zin, and end south of Kadesh-barnea. It will go to Hazar-addar and proceed to Azmon. | 4Then your border shall turn direction from the south to the ascent of Akrabbim and continue to Zin, and its termination shall be to the south of Kadesh-barnea; and it shall reach Hazaraddar and continue to Azmon. |
| 5The border will turn from Azmon to the Brook of Egypt, where it will end at the Mediterranean Sea. | 5The border shall turn direction from Azmon to the brook of Egypt, and its termination shall be at the sea. |
| 6Your western border will be the coastline of the Mediterranean Sea; this will be your western border. | 6As for the western border, you shall have the Great Sea, that is, its coastline; this shall be your west border. |
| 7This will be your northern border: From the Mediterranean Sea draw a line to Mount Hor; | 7And this shall be your north border: you shall draw your border line from the Great Sea to Mount Hor. |
| 8from Mount Hor draw a line to the entrance of Hamath, and the border will reach Zedad. | 8'You shall draw a line from Mount Hor to the Lebo-hamath, and the termination of the border shall be at Zedad; |
| 9Then the border will go to Ziphron and end at Hazar-enan. This will be your northern border. | 9and the border shall proceed to Ziphron, and its termination shall be at Hazar-enan. This shall be your north border. |
| 10For your eastern border, draw a line from Hazar-enan to Shepham. | 10'For your eastern border you shall also draw a line from Hazar-enan to Shepham, |
| 11The border will go down from Shepham to Riblah east of Ain. It will continue down and reach the eastern slope of the Sea of Chinnereth. | 11and the border shall go down from Shepham to Riblah on the east side of Ain; and the border shall go down and reach to the slope on the east side of the Sea of Chinnereth. |
| 12Then the border will go down to the Jordan and end at the Dead Sea. This will be your land defined by its borders on all sides." | 12'And the border shall go down to the Jordan and its termination shall be at the Salt Sea. This shall be your land according to its borders all around.'" |
| 13So Moses commanded the Israelites, "This is the land you are to receive by lot as an inheritance, which the LORD commanded to be given to the nine and a half tribes. | 13So Moses commanded the sons of Israel, saying, "This is the land that you are to apportion by lot among you as a possession, which the LORD has commanded to give to the nine and a half tribes. |
| 14For the tribe of the Reubenites and the tribe of the Gadites have received their inheritance according to their ancestral houses, and half the tribe of Manasseh has received its inheritance. | 14"For the tribe of the sons of Reuben have received theirs according to their fathers' households, and the tribe of the sons of Gad according to their fathers' households, and the half-tribe of Manasseh have received their possession. |
| 15The two and a half tribes have received their inheritance across the Jordan from Jericho, eastward toward the sunrise." | 15"The two and a half tribes have received their possession across the Jordan opposite Jericho, eastward toward the sunrising." |
| 16The LORD spoke to Moses, " | 16Then the LORD spoke to Moses, saying, |
| 17These are the names of the men who are to distribute the land as an inheritance for you: Eleazar the priest and Joshua son of Nun. | 17"These are the names of the men who shall apportion the land to you for inheritance: Eleazar the priest and Joshua the son of Nun. |
| 18Take one leader from each tribe to distribute the land. | 18"You shall take one leader of every tribe to apportion the land for inheritance. |
| 19These are the names of the men: Caleb son of Jephunneh from the tribe of Judah; | 19"These are the names of the men: of the tribe of Judah, Caleb the son of Jephunneh. |
| 20Shemuel son of Ammihud from the tribe of Simeon; | 20"Of the tribe of the sons of Simeon, Samuel the son of Ammihud. |
| 21Elidad son of Chislon from the tribe of Benjamin; | 21"Of the tribe of Benjamin, Elidad the son of Chislon. |
| 22Bukki son of Jogli, a leader from the tribe of Dan; | 22"Of the tribe of the sons of Dan a leader, Bukki the son of Jogli. |
| 23from the sons of Joseph: Hanniel son of Ephod, a leader from the tribe of Manasseh, | 23"Of the sons of Joseph: of the tribe of the sons of Manasseh a leader, Hanniel the son of Ephod. |
| 24Kemuel son of Shiphtan, a leader from the tribe of Ephraim; | 24"Of the tribe of the sons of Ephraim a leader, Kemuel the son of Shiphtan. |
| 25Eli-zaphan son of Parnach, a leader from the tribe of Zebulun; | 25"Of the tribe of the sons of Zebulun a leader, Elizaphan the son of Parnach. |
| 26Paltiel son of Azzan, a leader from the tribe of Issachar; | 26"Of the tribe of the sons of Issachar a leader, Paltiel the son of Azzan. |
| 27Ahihud son of Shelomi, a leader from the tribe of Asher; | 27"Of the tribe of the sons of Asher a leader, Ahihud the son of Shelomi. |
| 28Pedahel son of Ammihud, a leader from the tribe of Naphtali." | 28"Of the tribe of the sons of Naphtali a leader, Pedahel the son of Ammihud." |
| 29These are the ones the LORD commanded to distribute the inheritance to the Israelites in the land of Canaan. | 29These are those whom the LORD commanded to apportion the inheritance to the sons of Israel in the land of Canaan. |
