LORD, remember David and all the hardships he endured, | 1A Song of Ascents. Remember, O LORD, on David's behalf, All his affliction; |
and how he swore an oath to the LORD, making a vow to the Mighty One of Jacob: | 2How he swore to the LORD And vowed to the Mighty One of Jacob, |
"I will not enter my house or get into my bed, | 3"Surely I will not enter my house, Nor lie on my bed; |
I will not allow my eyes to sleep or my eyelids to slumber | 4I will not give sleep to my eyes Or slumber to my eyelids, |
until I find a place for the LORD, a dwelling for the Mighty One of Jacob." | 5Until I find a place for the LORD, A dwelling place for the Mighty One of Jacob." |
We heard of the ark in Ephrathah; we found it in the fields of Jaar. | 6Behold, we heard of it in Ephrathah, We found it in the field of Jaar. |
Let us go to his dwelling place; let us worship at his footstool. | 7Let us go into His dwelling place; Let us worship at His footstool. |
Rise up, LORD, come to your resting place, you and your powerful ark. | 8Arise, O LORD, to Your resting place, You and the ark of Your strength. |
May your priests be clothed with righteousness, and may your faithful people shout for joy. | 9Let Your priests be clothed with righteousness, And let Your godly ones sing for joy. |
For the sake of your servant David, do not reject your anointed one. | 10For the sake of David Your servant, Do not turn away the face of Your anointed. |
The LORD swore an oath to David, a promise he will not abandon: "I will set one of your offspring on your throne. | 11The LORD has sworn to David A truth from which He will not turn back: "Of the fruit of your body I will set upon your throne. |
If your sons keep my covenant and my decrees that I will teach them, their sons will also sit on your throne forever." | 12"If your sons will keep My covenant And My testimony which I will teach them, Their sons also shall sit upon your throne forever." |
For the LORD has chosen Zion; he has desired it for his home: | 13For the LORD has chosen Zion; He has desired it for His habitation. |
"This is my resting place forever; I will make my home here because I have desired it. | 14"This is My resting place forever; Here I will dwell, for I have desired it. |
I will abundantly bless its food; I will satisfy its needy with bread. | 15"I will abundantly bless her provision; I will satisfy her needy with bread. |
I will clothe its priests with salvation, and its faithful people will shout for joy. | 16"Her priests also I will clothe with salvation, And her godly ones will sing aloud for joy. |
There I will make a horn grow for David; I have prepared a lamp for my anointed one. | 17"There I will cause the horn of David to spring forth; I have prepared a lamp for Mine anointed. |
I will clothe his enemies with shame, but the crown he wears will be glorious." | 18"His enemies I will clothe with shame, But upon himself his crown shall shine." |
