Berean Standard BibleChristian Standard Bible
A song of ascents. In my distress I cried to the LORD, and He answered me.1In my distress I called to the LORD, and he answered me.
Deliver my soul, O LORD, from lying lips and a deceitful tongue.2"LORD, rescue me from lying lips and a deceitful tongue."
What will He do to you, and what will be added to you, O deceitful tongue?3What will he give you, and what will he do to you, you deceitful tongue?
Sharp arrows will come from the warrior, with burning coals of the broom tree!4A warrior's sharp arrows with burning charcoal!
Woe to me that I dwell in Meshech, that I live among the tents of Kedar!5What misery that I have stayed in Meshech, that I have lived among the tents of Kedar!
Too long have I dwelt among those who hate peace.6I have dwelt too long with those who hate peace.
I am in favor of peace; but when I speak, they want war.7I am for peace; but when I speak, they are for war.
