New American Standard Bible Similitudes, Instructions 1Like snow in summer and like rain in harvest, So honor is not fitting for a fool.
Like a sparrow in its flitting, like a swallow in its flying,
A whip is for the horse, a bridle for the donkey,
Do not answer a fool according to his folly,
Answer a fool as his folly deserves,
He cuts off his own feet and drinks violence
Like the legs which are useless to the lame,
Like one who binds a stone in a sling,
Like a thorn which falls into the hand of a drunkard,
Like an archer who wounds everyone,
Like a dog that returns to its vomit
Do you see a man wise in his own eyes?
The sluggard says, There is a lion in the road!
As the door turns on its hinges,
The sluggard buries his hand in the dish;
The sluggard is wiser in his own eyes
Like one who takes a dog by the ears
Like a madman who throws
So is the man who deceives his neighbor,
For lack of wood the fire goes out,
Like charcoal to hot embers and wood to fire,
The words of a whisperer are like dainty morsels,
Like an earthen vessel overlaid with silver dross
He who hates disguises it with his lips,
When he speaks graciously, do not believe him,
Though his hatred covers itself with guile,
He who digs a pit will fall into it,
A lying tongue hates those it crushes, New American Standard Bible Copyright © 1960, 1962, 1963, 1968, 1971, 1972, 1973, 1975, 1977, 1995 by The Lockman Foundation, La Habra, Calif. All rights reserved. For Permission to Quote Information visit http://www.lockman.org Bible Hub |
