Good News Translation
Jonathan then marched with his army through the towns of Greater Syria, and all the Syrian forces joined him as allies. He went to Ascalon, where the people welcomed him with great honors.

New Revised Standard Version
Then Jonathan set out and traveled beyond the river and among the towns, and all the army of Syria gathered to him as allies. When he came to Askalon, the people of the city met him and paid him honor.

Contemporary English Version
Jonathan left Judea and led his army across the Jordan River. They were going from town to town, when the entire Syrian army arrived and offered to help them fight. So Jonathan took his forces to the town of Askalon, where the people welcomed and honored them.
