The eggs deposited beneath her body were thus protected until the larvae were hatched and able to enter their own life cycle. As the mother died, the crimson fluid stained her body and the surrounding wood. From the dead bodies of such female scarlet worms, the commercial scarlet dyes of antiquity were extracted. What a picture this gives of Christ, dying on the tree, shedding His precious blood that He might 'bring many sons unto glory' (Heb 2:10)! He died for us, that we might live through him! Ps 22:6 describes such a worm and gives us this picture of Christ. (cf. Isa 1:18) (from page 73, 'Biblical Basis for Modern Science', 1985, Baker Book House, by Henry Morris) שָׁנִ֔י (šā·nî) Noun - masculine singular Strong's Hebrew 8144: 1) scarlet, crimson 1a) properly, the insect 'coccus ilicis', the dried body of the female yielding colouring matter from which is made the dye used for cloth to colour it scarlet or crimson cloth בֶּ֚גֶד (be·ḡeḏ) Noun - masculine singular construct Strong's Hebrew 899: 1) treachery, deceit 2) (CLBL) garment, clothing (used indiscriminately) over them, עֲלֵיהֶ֗ם (‘ă·lê·hem) Preposition | third person masculine plural Strong's Hebrew 5921: prep 1) upon, on the ground of, according to, on account of, on behalf of, concerning, beside, in addition to, together with, beyond, above, over, by, on to, towards, to, against 1a) upon, on the ground of, on the basis of, on account of, because of, therefore, on behalf of, for the sake of, for, with, in spite of, notwithstanding, concerning, in the matter of, as regards 1b) above, beyond, over (of excess) 1c) above, over (of elevation or pre-eminence) 1d) upon, to, over to, unto, in addition to, together with, with (of addition) 1e) over (of suspension or extension) 1f) by, adjoining, next, at, over, around (of contiguity or proximity) 1g) down upon, upon, on, from, up upon, up to, towards, over towards, to, against (with verbs of motion) 1h) to (as a dative) conj 2) because that, because, notwithstanding, although cover וְכִסּ֣וּ (wə·ḵis·sū) Conjunctive waw | Verb - Piel - Conjunctive perfect - third person common plural Strong's Hebrew 3680: 1) to cover, conceal, hide 1a) (Qal) conceal, covered (participle) 1b) (Niphal) to be covered 1c) (Piel) 1c1) to cover, clothe 1c2) to cover, conceal 1c3) to cover (for protection) 1c4) to cover over, spread over 1c5) to cover, overwhelm 1d) (Pual) 1d1) to be covered 1d2) to be clothed 1e) (Hithpael) to cover oneself, clothe oneself them אֹת֔וֹ (’ō·ṯōw) Direct object marker | third person masculine singular Strong's Hebrew 853: 1) sign of the definite direct object, not translated in English but generally preceding and indicating the accusative with בְּמִכְסֵ֖ה (bə·miḵ·sêh) Preposition-b | Noun - masculine singular construct Strong's Hebrew 4372: 1) a covering 1a) covering (of the ark) 1b) covering (of the skins of the tabernacle) fine leather תָּ֑חַשׁ (tā·ḥaš) Noun - masculine singular Strong's Hebrew 8476: 1) a kind of leather, skin, or animal hide 1a) perhaps the animal yielding the skin 1a1) perhaps the badger or dugong, dolphin, or sheep, or a now extinct animal ע֣וֹר (‘ō·wr) Noun - masculine singular Strong's Hebrew 5785: 1) skin, hide 1a) skin (of men) 1b) hide (of animals) and insert וְשָׂמ֖וּ (wə·śā·mū) Conjunctive waw | Verb - Qal - Conjunctive perfect - third person common plural Strong's Hebrew 7760: 1) to put, place, set, appoint, make 1a) (Qal) 1a1) to put, set, lay, put or lay upon, lay (violent) hands on 1a2) to set, direct, direct toward 1a2a) to extend (compassion) (fig) 1a3) to set, ordain, establish, found, appoint, constitute, make, determine, fix 1a4) to set, station, put, set in place, plant, fix 1a5) to make, make for, transform into, constitute, fashion, work, bring to pass, appoint, give 1b) (Hiphil) to set or make for a sign 1c) (Hophal) to be set אֶת־ (’eṯ-) Direct object marker Strong's Hebrew 853: 1) sign of the definite direct object, not translated in English but generally preceding and indicating the accusative the poles. בַּדָּֽיו׃ (bad·dāw) Noun - masculine plural construct | third person masculine singular Strong's Hebrew 905: 1) alone, by itself, besides, a part, separation, being alone 1a) separation, alone, by itself 1a1) only (adv) 1a2) apart from, besides (prep) 1b) part 1c) parts (eg limbs, shoots), bars Parallel Strong's Berean Study BibleAnd they shall spread a scarlet cloth over them, cover them with fine leather, and insert the poles.
