The Immediate Claims of Religion
Essex Congregational Remembrancer
Hebrews 4:7
Again, he limits a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if you will hear his voice…

I. THE PROPOSAL. "If ye will hear His voice."

1. By acknowledging His authority.

2. By considering His words.

3. By accepting the benefits which He offers.

4. By obeying His commands.

II. THE MEANS OF ACCEPTING IT. "Harden not your heart." Beware of cruelty to your own souls. Beware of impenitence amidst the means and calls of religion.

III. THE PERIOD TO WHICH IT REFERS. "To-day."

1. To-morrow you may be indisposed to listen to the voice of God.

2. To-morrow you may be incapable of hearing His voice.

IV. THE END TO BE SECURED BY ACCEPTING IT. This the connection leads us to consider as "Rest." The heavenly rest.

1. Rest from sin.

2. Rest from sorrow.

Parallel Verses
KJV: Again, he limiteth a certain day, saying in David, To day, after so long a time; as it is said, To day if ye will hear his voice, harden not your hearts.

WEB: he again defines a certain day, today, saying through David so long a time afterward (just as has been said), "Today if you will hear his voice, don't harden your hearts."
