The clergyman, as soon as he knew, went to see the mother, who was known to be dotingly fond of the child. To his great surprise he found her calm, patient, and resigned. After a little conversation she told him how she had been weeping bitterly as she knelt beside her child's cot, when suddenly he exclaimed, "Mother, don't you see the beautiful man who is standing there, and waiting for me?" Again and again the child persisted in saying, that, "the beautiful man" was waiting for him, and seemed ready and even anxious to go to him. And as a natural consequence, the mother's heart was strangely cheered.
