In this city Christ lived thirty years in seclusion, etc. — discharging the humble and homely duties of His station — thus obeyed the law in all its precepts. II. WHEN CHRIST WAS ABOUT TO SHOW HIMSELF TO ISRAEL, HE CAME TO JOHN TO BE BAPTIZED. He thus acknowledged the appointment of John, and honoured his office. He was made subject to the law. He thus dedicated Himself to the service of God. III. The baptism of Christ was signalized BY SEVERAL MIRACULOUS AND STRIKING ACCOMPANIMENTS. 1. The heavens were opened. 2. The Spirit descended. 3.
