"Yes, I must give you my mite," said the rich man. "Do you mean the widow's mite?" asked his friend. "Certainly," was the reply. "I shall be satisfied with half as much as she gave. How much are you worth?" "Seventy thousand dollars." "Give me, then, your cheque for thirty-five thousand; that will be half as much as the widow gave, for she, you know, gave 'all that she had, even all her living.'" The rich man was cornered. Covetous people often try to shelter themselves behind the widow's mite; but it is a dangerous refuge.
