Luke 13:1-5 There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices.… I remember that terrible accident which occurred on the Thames — the sinking of the "Princess Alice" steamboat. It appalled everybody, and we called it a "mysterious providence." I remember reading in the newspapers that when the collision occurred the boat "cracked and crumbled like a matchbox" — that was the sentence used. Why did it do so? Not by a special providence, but because it was built like a matchbox — as slim and as flimsy: and the providence that ended so fatally was, as usual, not the providence of God, but the reckless greed of man.
