It is not founded on God's promise — though that could never be broken — but upon past experience. God has been our help. II. PERSONAL — "My help." III. REAL. It is far more than rest or quiescent peace. The psalms are full of the gladness of the Lord. Much joy is superficial. What depths of melancholy there are in hearts that know not God. IV. RESTFUL. V. PROPHETIC. What can the future bring for which Christ cannot prepare us? This, then, is to be written on our banners, "In the shadow of Thy wings will I rejoice." (W. M. Statham.)
